Recommendations for resources to help cope with eating when out of control

Basically I've come to realise that when I feel out of control,I binge eat. Now I've established this, I'm desperate to get it under control in the long term.

Does anyone have any books/resources that can reset my mindset? Audiobooks best as I can listen when walking the baby x

I guess what you are asking is how to become more aware of your emotional responses to 'life stuff' and how eating has become the go to intervention for a high emotional response?

Eating, drinking, drugs, self harm can all be ways in which we start to cover up painful emotions - numb them out. But as you know, they can be very short-termist and end up leaving us feeling worse in the long term.

So obviously the key to all of this is to understand more fully the emotions that we experience in response to stress events and basically make friends with them.

One way many people start to do this is by slowing everything down a bit with mindfulness / meditation.

The purpose being that you can start to feel anxiety a bit more rather than instantly run to your nearest crux and try and block it out. Anxiety isn't the worst feeling in the world once you 'make friends' with it. It can be valid, it can allow you to think through a problem, it can allow you to understand yourself a bit more. It can also be disproportionate. The main objective though is to become literate with your emotions - to value them, because they are giving you data about something and so you need to pay attention to them rather than dismiss and ignore them with a bar of chocolate or similar.

Starting there will set you off on the road. You can do it with loads of apps - e.g. Headspace
