Hey everyone,

I'm currently 3.5st above my ideal weight/pre lockdown weight and am looking to kickstart the weight loss by trying a new diet. I'm keen to hear about your experiences good and bad with diets?

Thanks in advance to anyone who gets back to me!

Best : F plan. Also low carb combined with 5:2 .
Worst : anything needing "meal replacements"

I've been doing a lot of reading as I'm embarking on the journey myself.
In summary- diets are short term fixes, ruin your metabolism, cause your body to store food once you do start eating again and mostly end up with you putting weight back on.
The way forwards is a life style change.
Choose one thing to start with- like more veg, or cutting out biscuits- and keep adjusting your lifestyle to a place that is sustainable.
Overall- you must be in calorie deficit- using more calories that you eat. Whether that's by lowering your sugar, carb or booze intake.
My fitness pal app is a game changer but there's no point in doing it unless you weigh your food- as portion size guessing can be wildly overestimated!
Good luck!

Best: reeducating yourself on what a healthy portion size is, and what a balanced healthy diet looks like. Even if that means weighing a measuring portions in the short term while you readjust to what is actually a healthy amount.
Worst: anything that tells you unhealthy shite is free or encourage etc.

Thanks ladies. I have a good friend who swears by Slimming World but when I had a look into it, I just found it counterintuitive the way there's is so many unlimited foods that to me don't seem healthy?

Best is 80:20 eat healthily for 80% of the time with 20% for less healthy foods/drinks. Plus exercise (any) 3 times per week.
Works well & sustainable.
Worst is definitely meal replacement shakes, pumped full of shite & teaches you nothing about changing your habits to suit your lifestyle.

Best - calorie count, be aware of portion sizes, don’t have off limit foods, just account for rare treats properly

Worse - caddy diets, this should be a change for life not just a few weeks so it needs to be sustainable
