Losing a stone in your late 30s.

I have always been a healthy weight and have found it easy to maintain it and lose a few pounds when necessary through healthy diet and exercise. I have a generally very healthy diet and exercise daily, and have always been able to eat a bit of chocolate or have a glass of wine when I’ve wanted to because I exercise a lot- either a run, an hours walk or HIIT at home.

Despite all of this I have gradually gained a stone and am now at the very top of the healthy weight range and clothes are very tight. It doesn’t suit me, have a very small frame.

I think honestly it’s just that I have lost a bit of motivation, and just think ‘who cares’ so have an extra portion of food or an extra glass of wine and this is just taking me slightly over what I should be eating every day.

I feel gloomy... it seems so hard to lose weight nowadays and I wonder if it’s my age.

Have tried lots of times to get back to my original weight over last few months and battle hard to lose a couple of pounds then give up for a few weeks and end up a couple of pounds heavier.

I realise this is not the most serious problem. But has anyone managed to just lose the final stone in late 30s with young children, busy life, job etc?

I've lost 7kg so very close to a stone in a couple of months doing a combination of 16:8 and 5:2, with eating takeaway and drinking wine at weekend.

I'm 40, have one 15 month old baby and work full time from home. It can definitely be done! I recommend reading Fast Feast Repeat by Gin Stephens and The Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung.

Rolling towards 40 yr - I've did the Fast 800 and got rid of a stone. I could have kept it on as I'm quite tall but I didn't feel like myself. Clothes size is pretty much the same but I like a looser feel for trousers and the reduced bust (it was getting hard to get bras).

I hit 40 last year, and lost two stone. Mostly by switching up my exercise routine and starting to lift weights.

I could've written your post OP except I don't have small people or a very busy life! So no excuses! I'm small and late 30's and have put on a stone and a half. My clothes and bras aren't fitting and I don't feel like myself. Lockdown wine and takeaways are to blame. I'm going to really lower my carbs starting from tomorrow but also not go mental on calories either. I've had success with low carbing in the past.

Need to knock the wine drinking on the head too as I find it impossible to lose weight whilst drinking. I struggle with moderation. There are loads of people I haven't seen in ages due to my local being shut I don't want them to think 'oh she's put on the beef in lockdown' so I'm motivated by the easing of restrictions hopefully.

Good luck!

I lost 2.5 stone after my 2nd child by low carbing. It worked really well but I had to be in the right frame of mind for it. I was feeling really low, enough was enough, and I committed to it completely.

2 years on I'm now pregnant with number 3 and to be honest, dreading the weight loss process afterwards as it will only be harder. I know it works though and I've done it once, I can do it again.

Thanks everyone. Well done all of you who have managed it! I have lost a couple of stone several times in the past after having babies, and always done it slowly and gradually and kept it off (until pregnant again).

I did the same after my youngest was born and was back at my pre pregnancy weight for a couple of years.

I think at the moment I want a quick fix and that is partly what’s causing the issues. I eat low carb for a couple of weeks, lose 3 or 4 lbs (realise this is mostly water), feel hungry, grumpy and lack energy and eat a big bowl of pasta and give up. So I’m not really being consistent.

The other issue is that as I approach 40 my PMT is nightmarish & lasts for 10 days or so I and I eat to get through it. Plus have been homeschooling 3 primary aged kids so always around food, in kitchen etc.

As you can see none of this is my fault and I have a wide range of excuses! Hence I am not getting rid of the weight.

Does anyone exercise a lot and find that low carb works over the longer term? Maybe I need to do this and stick to it properly for longer.

And actually supercee, not being busy makes it even harder. I eat when I’m bored more than when I’m busy!
I have so many excuses.
