Can you lose weight without being hungry?

Hi All,

I lost a couple of stone last year by eating 1100 calories a day, with the odd cheat day for around 2-3 months.

I really want to shift one more stone but am happy to do it a bit slower this time, with the hope of having more energy! I decided to set my calories at 1340 and walk 10,000 steps a day + 20 mins of strength training.

This is what I ate yesterday (I am vegetarian) - within my calories but it just felt like so much food for weight loss! Do you think this will work?

Breakfast: black coffee
Lunch: leftover stir fry - udon noodles (168 cals), sauce (88 cals), stir fry veg (45 cals), followed by a Greek muller light (76 cals)
Snack 1: Cadbury egg n spoon (179 cals)
Snack 2: rice crackers (100 cals), cottage cheese ( 34 cals)
Dinner: gnocchi (237 cals) , mushroom sauce (106 cals) vegan meatballs (120 cals), tenderstem broccoli (17 cals)
Snack: apple cupcake (226 cals)

I felt so full all day! Just wondering if that is my body’s way of telling me it is too much food, and so I won’t lose weight?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Sorry, should have been clearer. This put me at only 40 cals over my 1340 target, however, I probably didn’t have the whole portion of gnocchi and sauce listed!

I don't think it's as simple as - feel hungry = lose weight, feel full = don't lose weight. If your stomach is full it will stop releasing the hormones which make you hungry, but if it's full of something low in calories, that won't make you gain weight. If you eat a lot of things that are high in calories but low in other nutrition and bulk, you might still feel hungry even though you are not losing weight.

It can be a case of trial and error finding the balance between losing weight but not feeling hungry. I would try your present intake for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

If you need to adjust downwards you could cut out/swap one or more of the snacks - the apple cupcake looks quite high in calories for how filling it is, so I would look to swap that for a real apple, for example.
