I need to lose more than the weight of my child!

So I know I have piled on weight and yes I have been in denial. But restarted dieting 2 weeks ago and I have lost 8lbs

What is really scary is my little girl age 6 who is a lump and I really can't carry her up the stairs to bed any more, she was standing on the scales and she weighs 4st. And I have realised I need to lose 1.5 times her weight to be healthy and reduce my risk of diabetes. I think putting my weight gain into that context has really shocked me. And I was thinking how carrying that much extra weight must be affecting my body and heart Sad

I’d break it down into smaller goals. When I started my weight loss I had more than my 3.5 year old to lose which was an overwhelming thought! So I’d break it down into smaller goals, to get to the next stone or kg bracket. I have lost 8 kg so far and I still have more than my 2 year old to lose but for now I’m concentrating on losing 6kg to get back to a healthy bmi and will go from there.

I was almost an obese bmi and have had terrible back issues which I’m sure we’re not helped by my weight. My dad and grandmother have type 2 diabetes so similarly to you I am losing weight for health reasons. Don’t think of the stones for now, just make small changes that feel manageable long term and every tiny amount of weight you lose will help you. I am nowhere near my goal weight yet but I’m 8kg down and if I picture 8kg bags of sugar it sounds like a lot to carry around with me so while I have a way to go I’m glad I’m no longer carrying around that 8kg.

Well done on your 8lb that is a brilliant start. You must have made some really positive changes to have lost this much so far so stick with it and soon the lbs will turn into stones.

If it makes you feel any better, I have to lose more than the weight of my mother Grin Thankfully she's smallish.

Just take it a day at a time, and be glad that your head is in the right place. Well done for starting, that's the worst bit.
