Help. I'm at home all day with DCs. Youngest 8 months. I'm still breastfeeding. I've recently started running C25k.

I'm hungry all the time!!! I still feed at night and am usually up before 5am.

I don't know what I'm asking. I know what I need to do to lose weight but I'm so hungry. We have mindful chef most evenings. It's full of veg and no dairy or white starch.

So far this morning I've had fruit and Greek yogurt. A protein bar. An Apple. And belvita breakfast biscuits. Plus a coffee with sugar. That's way too much food!

I'm eating too many calories but I'm just so hungry. I'm also overweight. I've lost 50lbs from being 9 months pregnant but still need to lose more. Any tips!?

Drink water? Your body might be saying hunger but it might be thirsty

gamerchick · 08/03/2021 09:14

How much protien are you having on any given day?

2021isalsorubbish · 08/03/2021 09:15

That’s just too much sugar and not enough food. Firstly be kind to yourself as when you are breastfeeding you are ravinous. Could you have overnight oats or porridge instead? Something more filling and will keep you feeling full for longer? Or 2 eggs and smoked salmon on 1 toast? Living in veg is going to make you hungry unless you have massive portions of veg.

beelzeboob · 08/03/2021 09:19

I make my own granola (porridge oats, flaked almonds, raisins, honey, vanilla essence) and by god does it fill me up till lunch. And I’m someone who loves eating and generally has a big appetite and eats quickly (I’m within a normal weight range)
Fruit is not filling. Neither is yoghurt. That’s why you’re still hungry and want more.

DolphinDreams · 08/03/2021 09:19

Please eat what your body craves. You WILL be ravenous while breastfeeding. You may lose weight anyway

OnSilverStars · 08/03/2021 09:22

You're all right about water and sugar. I've meal prepped lunch yesterday. Quinoa, chicken, and roast veg.

I think convenience is my problem too. I'm grumpy and lazy and a cereal bar is quick.

My tip would definitely be....

Don’t buy it. If you don’t have the quick convenience foods around, then you can’t eat them.
I know that’s so much easier said than done when you’re tired and breast feeding and don’t necessarily have the time to be preparing healthy meals all the time!
When I lost weight after my youngest DS was born I would have a plate of chopped up peppers, carrots, cucumber, grapes, apple etc in the fridge and I’d snack on those with some salsa or something throughout the day.
Drink plenty of water too.
For me, Weight Watchers worked really well. I still have the app on my phone if I feel I need a few weeks to get back on track. There are loads of inspirational posts on there and I track what I plan to eat for the whole day and stick to it.
I lost just over 7 stone and seeing as I have little to no willpower...I was pretty impressed! Grin

Good luck! Flowers

OnSilverStars · 08/03/2021 09:35

Wow 7 stone!? Amazing. I know I need to prep more and stop eating rubbish made in a factory. I hope now that I know the world will be back open for business soon it'll motivate me.

I've literally never been comfortable in a pair of shorts and that depresses me.

Why can't I just do it!? Argh.

I do an online shop every week and get mountains of fruit and veg, and I only buy snacks for the rest of the family that don’t tempt me.
Then when you’ve got a minute, chop it all up and store it in Tupperwares in the fridge. Much easier to grab when you’re hungry that way.

My other tip for you would be less sugar, more protein. You don’t have to full on low carb; just try and tip the balance another 10-20% in that direction. Chopped up chicken/ hard boiled eggs/ whatever all ready in the fridge as well.

Best of luck!

Laila747 · 08/03/2021 09:45

Because it’s bloody hard!!!
Especially when you’re tired and every bit of energy you have is dedicated to your DC.
Don’t beat yourself up about it! It took me about 2 years to lose the 7st. I got in the ‘zone’ and once I started seeing results it all just clicked. I remember my first weigh in and WW...I stood on the scales and cried because I was 18st 4lbs (I’d convinced myself i was about 15st)
It seemed like a mountain of weight to lose so my WW leader told me to break it in to 7lb chunks. It didn’t seem so overwhelming then.
Give yourself small, achievable goals.

Juno231 · 08/03/2021 10:12

Belvita and protein bars can both go in the bin tbh! Full of sugary crap - you're much better snacking on something less processed than that :)

PutTheCakeDOWN · 08/03/2021 10:19

The more you eat (especially sugary processed crap) the more you want to eat.

After a few days of strict healthy food within your calorie allowance (correctly calculated to allow for breastfeeding), your body will adjust and the ravenous hunger will go. But you will have a few days hunger to get there.

It’s not real hunger. It’s sugar cravings.

Good luck!

Houseworkavoider · 08/03/2021 11:20

I would lower your processed carb intake and up your protein.
I think the trick is to prep your snacks and lunch.
You could cook extra chicken when you cook dinner so that you don’t have to do it when your busy in the day.
Tinned tuna, boiled eggs, peanut butter on carrot and cucumber sticks, any nuts or seeds, smoked salmon with cream cheese - all good lunches or snacks and they don’t contain tons of sugar & carbs but will keep you fuller for longer.

NoJetter · 08/03/2021 11:57

I have no experience breastfeeding but obviously you will need more calories than if you weren’t.

I am calorie counting using my Fitbit. I am having 1200 a day and I’m making sure I’m having things that are healthy and filling. If I had 1200 calories of processed carbs I’d probably be starving and sluggish but if I have 1200 calories of fruit, vegetables, wholegrains, lean protein I feel full and have lots of energy. Obviously not telling you to follow a low cal diet if you’re breastfeeding but I’d make sure the calories you’re having are filling so you’re not hungry, like a bowl of porridge with fruit for breakfast instead of a belvita and you’ll probably be ok until lunch without anything else.

Sometimes you just needs to listen to your body. You’re breastfeeding so I think it’s absolutely normal to eat more than usual. You shouldn’t stress about this, enjoy it!! I’m also breastfeeding and I’m on www.hodxpress.com all the time, I gave up on doing the groceries physically. And yes, doing the groceries online does make you buy more than normal AND eat more than normal! Do I regret it? No, I dont:))
eddiemairswife · 09/07/2021 13:48

When I was breastfeeding I found I felt very thirsty the instant the baby started feeding so I made sure I had a pint glass of lemon barley water within reach.

PRabbit · 09/07/2021 13:50

Honestly breastfeeding made me so hungry and tired that I couldn’t lose weight. In the end I quit breastfeeding so I could get some weight off because I was depressed with being fat.
