Why am I not losing weight?

Or am I expecting to notice a change too soon?

Mid January I started c25k, along with healthy eating and in between run days I walk

I cover an average of 35km per week, 15km of that is running 3x a week.

I have cut out alcohol.
I generally eat mindfully and have never been an over eater or addicted to sugar.
I never add sugar or milk to tea or coffee.

But I’m still no lighter 6 weeks on.

I’ve got a stone of baby weight that needs to go so that I can fit in my jeans again. (Baby is now 9 months so it’s definitely about time)

Baby doesn’t sleep too well at night (wakes every 2 hours) and I’m still breastfeeding and those are the only 2 things I can think might have some effect.
But surly with all the cardio and walking I should at least see some improvement by now.

I’d hoped to be losing 1lb a week so I should be close to half a stone down by now but nothings happened and I’m wondering if I just give up if my body won’t change

I don’t want to cut out healthy foods. 2 portions of fruit a day along with veg isn’t bad and to class that as too much carbs is only the case if I was aiming to be in ketosis.

It’s certainly not biscuits and Yorkshire puds Grin

I’m breastfeeding so it has to be balanced.

In seriousness, What I’m struggling with which I don’t think is clear is that I am eating less calories than when I was maintaining, along with massively increasing exercise.
I’ve always weighed my food since I did keto years ago, it’s just a habit so I know I’m not just having massive portions of things.

These steps have made minimal change (other than beefing up my legs and slimming my face)

Im hoping if I keep on il notice more chance.
My rings are starting to become too lose for my fingers.

All that is lovely but it’s not making any difference where I need it to.

I’m guessing that could be down to the c section.

Il keep at

There are a number of reasons why you may not be losing weight, from what I can see from your dietary intake, it doesn't look like you are getting enough healthy fats - this can lead to weight loss resistance, it may be you aren't eating enough and it may be due to the impact of stress on the nervous system which can also play a role in weight and it's loss. It isn't just about calories in vs calories out unfortunately!

LivingMyBestLife2020 · 03/03/2021 22:30

My opinion is you aren’t eating enough. I’m doing SlimmingWorld and I eat more now than I ever did (but less sugar) and I’m 8.5lb in 3 weeks.

How much do you weigh OP?

Starsandglitter · 03/03/2021 22:37

Your baby is only 9 months, you’re breastfeeding and not getting much sleep. All of that has a huge impact on weight loss. A GP recently told my friend that when you’re not sleeping, it’s going to be tough to lose weight! I’m not a health professional but it looks like you have a pretty healthy and balanced diet and I think you just need to stick at it and you’ll get there. I found the last bit of weight pretty stubborn but it will come off eventually. Don’t restrict yourself and allow yourself treats but also don’t feel like you should just give up either. Xx

When you're being woken up constantly, with poor sleep, and stress of having a baby it can negatively affect your blood sugar levels. I'm not sure what your situation is like OP but I found the stress levels (I'm a lone parent) and lack of sleep punishing on my metabolism, and I put on a lot more weight. Not to mention reaching for carbs more to try to feel more energetic. Also I do think your hormones are messed up after having a baby. It was at least two years before I felt anything like normal again. I'm sure this counts.

I think I’m due my period in 2 days so ask my DH and he’s say I’m quite stressed right now

Well not stressed but irritable

That mixed with lack of sleep and really I’m quite a misery guts right now

I took all my measurements today with a tape measure so I can track progress that way

Even measured my neck which is surprisingly tiny at 13’’.

I thought neck circumference was supposed to be half of waist measurement?!

I wish! Alas my waist isn’t 26’’ but 32’’ Sad

I measured my hips too, but it’s so out of proportion to the rest of me that it makes me sad.
Not out of proportion in a kardashion way but just because I’ve got excess skin left from 2 c sections that seem to add to it

@andrewflintoff

One of the fundamental reasons why consuming activity may in any case not outcome in weight reduction is because of overexertion, or irritation of your body. In the event that you practice too hard consistently, there is an overabundance of irritation in your body. All the additional up aggravation makes you put on more weight than lose.
This is interesting. I have been pushing myself each time because I want to improve.

I keep a track of my heart rate and it’s at 90% of max heart rate for most of the duration.
Maybe going from nothing to all out wasn’t beat idea.

I have improved a bit though at least

I probably don’t have much in the way of fats I’m allergic to nuts so they are off and other than cheese and oil I’m a bit clueless about healthy fats

So healthy fats could also be olive oil, avocado oil macadamia oil, avocados, seeds like chia seeds, flaxseeds/linseeds, olives or you could take a fish oil supplement if that is easier.

You've had some good suggestions, I just wanted to add that I went on a 9.5km walk today. At a decent pace (about 1.5hrs) with a steep hill or two. My Fitbit says I burned the grand total of 134 calories Hmm

I have a rebounder and can burn that in 15mins, and have toned up a lot as well.

KihoBebiluPute · 05/03/2021 06:56

@Sparklfairy I have no idea how the devices calculate these things or which is more reliable, but yesterday I went on a much shorter walk, 4km in 50 minutes including a couple of steep hills and my garmin vivoactive reckons that effort burned 283 calories. Quite a difference to what your Fitbit thinks that walking uses!

Well I would rather it undercalculated Grin I'm 10st and 5ft6, and it does seem to be connected to heart rate 'zones' and it seems I only got into a decent one for four minutes (during a particularly bastard hill towards the end). Interestingly I really really felt worn out, yet I can get up to and stay in that higher zone on the rebounder and not feel nearly as wiped!
