How much weight have you gained in the last year?

I had a failed IVF just before lockdown started. So taking my weight from before that started, the hormone / depression weight and then lockdowns and a largely sedentary lifestyle as a result of WFH sometimes 50 hours a week I’ve gained 2.5 stone 😫

It’s at the point where I’m now embarrassed to see anyone and need to use the next couple of months to do something about it. I have stabilised at my current weight since November, which is a mini victory. But my diet is awful and I find it tough to motivate myself to exercise. I am so bored of walking around the local area and it’s not particularly safe either.

Anyone else feeling the same way and feeling anxious about the world opening up again?

How much is it realistic to lose by mid May??

I weighed in at 12 stone on Sunday. I have made a decision just to weigh on Sundays..I will report back on Sunday. I did 11000 steps yesterday so hope to match or exceed that today.

I had been working on dropping mine and got from 12st8 to 11st5, but wanted to get to 10st7.

I am now 14st6, my heaviest ever.

I have lost my 10 minute very fast walk each way from train station to the office, and climbing to my 5th floor office multiple times a day. And work has gone so very busy that I've lost all work life balance and don't have time to get out for a walk most days.

The family are all home for lunch so I'm eating hot meals rather than the bowl of salad i used to bring to work.

The family are all starving but seem to have lost an ability to cook for themselves (well Dh has). Dd takes over to cook her meals, Dh needs food now, and I haven't been able to cook like I used to with lots of veg etc. So it's a lot more carbs, jars of sauce and conveniences.

The whole situation is depressing enough so I'm having a G&T or glass of wine most nights, not a couple of times a week.

I'm not eating a load of chocolate, crisps or ice cream on the other hand. Most of what I buy is disappearing long before I look for some.

I have chronic asthma so don't really do the gym, but I had been getting back into swimming which is my exercise. All pools closed again. And as Cubs are also banned from meeting, the running around that I used to do every Saturday morning is also gone.

I had to buy new jeans as the 1 pair still firing me had worn through at the crtotch (very elderly pair), I am now in size 22....Blush I had been back into my 16s last spring....

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 24/02/2021 08:33

It's hard op. No formal exercise since November here. Now looking at online classes. Last year I lost 16lbs, 10 of which I put on during lockdown. I did that via weight watchers as exercise alone wasn't working. I've gained 2-3 pounds back. I am permanently on weight watchers now but not losing anything, just maintaining. I'll start exercising again, I'll research classes thanks to this thread

MarySanderson · 24/02/2021 08:38

I'd lost just over 4st pre-lockdown and as of today have put 3st on again. I eat instead of killing a child. It should be easier from 8th March.

Daisy829 · 24/02/2021 08:41

I’m about 4lb lighter but 10lb over where I ideally want to be. Twice I’ve got to my ideal weight but just put it straight back on. It’s so tedious. I’m not motivated atm but thinking that it’s 5 weeks until Easter so want to have a good run at it from next week & start running again.

Daisy829 · 24/02/2021 08:44

@doadeer the comment about vices is really valid. Mine is crisps & wine. I’m thinking I need to cut them out altogether

EternalOptimist7 · 24/02/2021 08:47

I’m not sure if it’s in the last year or just over but I have gone from 9 stone to 13 & I’m only just slightly taller than 5ft 2”. To be honest, I looked a little too thin ( especially in the face) at 9 stone so would like to be around 9.5 or 10. For me it’s been booze. Trying to cut down but it’s very tough, especially with lockdown.

BumDiggyDiggyDiggyBumDiggyBum · 24/02/2021 09:37

I’ve lost around a stone and half since this time last year. Can’t take credit though, I took advantage of being on furlough and had a breast reduction last July, that accounts for 2.5kg of the loss.

Right now I’m strength training, so using weights for fat burning, everyday and calorie counting to make sure I’m in a deficit. I drink 4l of water a day, eat pretty much what I want and just swap things for lower calorie versions. For example I just had toast bacon eggs and mushrooms for breakfast. But it was turkey bacon instead of normal, and danish bread instead of gloriously thick white warburtons. I’m eating up to 1550 calories a day just now, that’s due to drop next week I think.

Good luck OP

Youngatheart00 · 24/02/2021 13:56

@BiddyPop you have described my situation almost down to a T there in terms of loss of (always at a rushing pace!) busy London commute which in itself saw me do 7000-8000 steps a day. Now I wake up and commute 3 steps to my home office.

Wine, snacking and carbs all my downfall. Thinking if I can cut back on at least one of them, and up the steps and exercise I might start to lose. If not; it will require a more drastic rethink.

Made myself take a proper hour lunch break and have had a pasta salad (probably not the best) but walked 7500 steps.

Would you consider walking every day?
You could eat your main meal at lunch then a lighter meal in the evening. I eat carbs with lunch then vegetables in the evening.

Marysanderson
Wow - a 4stone weight loss. You have lost it once, you can do it again.

Daisy829
I walk daily. I have lost a few lbs - trying to lose another 10lb which will leave me at 10st. I can see the difference consistent walking has made.

trilbydoll · 24/02/2021 14:59

I put on a stone, maybe more, in the first lockdown. Lost a stone over the summer. Have been steadily gaining since mid December so I'm back on a diet again now! Being in the house all the time, and work / homeschooling make it impossible to find time to exercise and I have zero willpower for healthy eating unless I'm doing a ridiculous meal replacement shakes type diet. I'm all about the quick results Grin I'm currently having porridge for breakfast, soup or boiled eggs for lunch and a shake for tea. I can't be trusted to make a wider range of choices!

greendress789 · 24/02/2021 21:38

I'm the same with the walking going from 10,000+ steps to 2000! I've taken up running. Done over 7500 steps today Smile

Youngatheart00 · 25/02/2021 08:43

Well done @greendress789!!!

How does the running feel? I need to get out and jog but I’ve been putting it off. This Saturday maybe.

Nothing. I was a fat shite 12 months ago as well Grin

greendress789 · 25/02/2021 09:59

Running is hard but good once you get going and in a routine. Download couch to 5k app and follow the instructions. Smile

😂😂😂😂😂
Miseryl · 25/02/2021 21:09

@Youngatheart00 I've worked full time onsite throughout COVID so I haven't gone through as many life changes as other people. My routine isn't that much different overall which I think has definitely helped.

Daisy829 · 25/02/2021 21:16

@Faith50 I usually do more walking so that’s a good point. I’ll pick it up again. I’m also going to restart couch to 5k on sun. Doing exercise definitely helps me focus. 6 weeks until Easter. Going to do it.

Geeeeepers · 27/02/2021 21:46

It is possible even with work from home, I’ve lost 4 stone since last June! Most days in the work week I don’t get the chance to leave the house at all (v long hours) but still lost successfully being strict on calories x

canipressthebackbuttonplease · 27/02/2021 22:43

I've put on eight pounds and feel not at all like myself anymore.

I do a lot of exercise, I walk thirty miles a week and work out four times a week. But I just can't stop eating!! Or drinking sugary drinks like hot chocolate

Faith50 · 27/02/2021 23:40

Daisy829
Good on you!

Geepers
Great weight loss!

Canipress
What a lot of walking. I still eat snacks but only eat rice/bread/potatoes with one meal a day. I drink Options hot chocolate with water every evening.
