Best diets for vegans?

I have put on so much weight since the festive period and lockdown. I really want to be slimmer. My clothes are too tight and I feel really self-conscious.

I’ve had success in the past losing weight doing the Cambridge diet, however I have become vegan since then and I don’t think I could do it again. What diets are good for vegans? Slimming world? Weight watchers? Noom?

There are some good threads on the Weight loss site. To suit most people!

I'm vegan and doing Slimming World. There is a really active Vegan Slimming World group on Facebook. The good thing for me about it is that you can have as much as you like of fruit, veg, healthy starchy foods, lean proteins (tofu etc), some healthy extras (I like Ryvita and soy or almond milk) and then some points that you can spend on treats like chocolate or processed food. They encourage you to take a healthy approach by making sure you get a decent proportion of veg in your meals.

I think Weight Watchers is similar but my understanding is Slimming World is more focussed on low-fat, whereas Weight Watchers is more low-carb.

To be fair though, Slimming World is working for me because I'm doing it online (no listening to people talk about meat recipes at a group) and because I'm tweaking it to suit me. For example, certain free foods are called "speed foods" and you're encouraged to eat more of them, but I'm losing weight without worrying about that for the moment and it keeps it nice and simple for me. The first time I tried it I went to the group and tried to follow all the rules and hated it. I've found my current relaxed approach is nice because I know I can have a small amount of less nutritious food each day by counting the points, but I don't overdo it.

Obviously the Cambridge diet failed as you put weight on again. You know where the excess calories are coming from - sugar filled snacks and the bags of fat and air that are crisps. So reduce those.

No need to pay a diet guru or join a club - the business model of all these is to ensure that you fail.

murblurb If you're referring to Paul Mackenna's works, I lost the 3 stone I needed to many years ago with his (I Can Make You Thin) it's a silly title , the only silly thing about it IMO ,but I'm slim and have maintained for all those years.

Some people need guidance to loose weight it's not unusual, his way is sensible, mindful slow eating, learning to know your body, you can go on and off it whenever you need to and it works each time!

I’ve ordered Paul McKenna’s book and I’ve started calorie counting. I’m managing to stick to 1200 calories per day and I’ve lost 3lb so far. I will read the Paul McKenna thread Smile
