I need to lose a couple of stone but am constantly hungry !! Nothing seems to fill me up. I don't eat that badly but the weight won't shift. Any ideas for healthy snacks that will make me feel full ?!

I always found if I eat simple carbs I can’t fill myself and constantly feel hungry. I’ve cut out bread completely.

If you don’t eat that badly and the weight won’t shift try looking at portion sizes. Do you weigh and log what you eat on My Fitness Pal or similar? It can be educational to see where you are going wrong. I was shocked to find some sandwiches can be more calorific than a well portioned roast dinner! Weighing and logging, and discovering what size portions I should have, has helped me lose nearly 3 stone.

I like Kvarg yogurt pots. High protein and around 100 calories so that keeps me satisfied and stops me snacking after dinner.

Small banana 100 calories

Multipack of popcorn 63 calories each

Multipack of curly wurlys 97 calories each for the small ones, the bigger bars are 118 cals.

@Buntysbosom you realise that curly wurlys are practically the definition of simple carbs? Bananas are mostly simple too.

On the other hand bread - and popcorn - are complex carbs.

Join SlimmingWorld and you won't be hungry but will lose weight.

Just place marking as I have the same issue.

I find a small sweetcorn cob done in the microwave quite filling but would like more ideas.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 09/02/2021 22:59

Try upping your protein intake whilst limiting sugar, and fat isn't "bad!"
I've been trying out Grenade carb killa bars, they are a bit pricey but for 220 calories theyre 2 gram of sugar or less and 20+ grams of protein.
Personally i find them quite filling, and they come in lots of flavours.

ilovespinach · 10/02/2021 15:42

I find eating an apple always fills me up.

NoNameNellie · 10/02/2021 16:58

I know the feeling! As some other posters have said, avoid simple carbs (white pasta, white bread) as whilst it will fill you up at the time, you get very hungry shortly after.

Go for lots of protein and also foods that are high in good fats (avocado, nuts, fish, etc.)

LH1987 · 10/02/2021 17:16

I am making a large pot of veggie soup at the start of the week and adding a small of bowl of that with my lunch and I find it fills me up.

Also, if I do some exercise, I stop being hungry for an hour or so. So when I start to feel hungry I try to go for a walk.

doadeer · 10/02/2021 17:20

I would make a big pan of homemade healthy soup and have a mug of that when you feel hungry. I've lost 2 stone recently and I did have to retrain myself that's it's OK to feel hungry

PyjamaFan · 10/02/2021 17:25

I second the exercise suggestion, I always lose my hunger pangs when I go for a walk or do an online aerobics class.

Alternatively try having a hot drink. That will also make me feel full for a while.

Otherwise if all else fails I have some plain zero percent fat yogurt with some fruit.

cherrypiepie · 10/02/2021 17:38

Have a safe fruit ( not banana or grapes) that you can default to if you are hungry. Or a boiled egg. Don't have a wide range of snacks try to get out of the mind set of snacking.

Think of the hunger is the fat being gnawed away- I think a little bit of hunger is good helps us regulate our satiety and hunger.

Are you having three small meals and three small snacks a day? I would plan it out and stick to it exactly.

Good luck 🤞

Passthebubbly · 10/02/2021 19:33

I have started skinny sprinkles to help me with snacking etc and to get my stomach used to eating less. They have worked really well so far. Not a long term solution (cost too much) but had really helped me for the first month and am just over a stone down. I snacked a lot before 😂

nicknamehelp · 10/02/2021 19:46

Lean protein as a snack really helps me.

AubergineDream · 10/02/2021 21:57

My best snacks for filling me up are corn on the cob, a piece of grilled chicken or fish, a chicken drumstick, a few nuts, a couple of oatcakes, tinned sardines in tomato sauce (on a piece of rye toast is nice, but then that's more of a meal!), or I raid the pickles and have pickled onions, beetroot, sauerkraut, gherkins/cornichons, with a small piece of cheese or a baby bel, hard boiled eggs, or some cold meat. I like to keep some cooked meat/chicken pieces, some snack size cheeses (I cut it into 20g pieces or buy snack cheeses), some frozen fruit, plain yoghurt, and lots of veg cut into crudités. I try not to snack, but when I do I go for veg (or occasionally fruit) with a protein source. Apple with a little bit of peanut butter hits the spot nicely too

micc · 11/02/2021 07:19

I find its gradual. When I started eating less I felt I was sooo hungry. But I was actually eating a normal amount of food.
So once my body got used to it I didnt feel as hungry. I did go to bed a few nights after dinner feeling hungry. But it's because I was used to having something sweet after! Sometimes I would have a banana.
I really like those 10 cal jelly pots as it hits my sweet craving.
I also like naked bars (lidl ones, much cheaper) or rice cakes.

10kaDay · 11/02/2021 16:28

agree that simple carbs (sugar, flour) just ramp up hunger...

if you are REALLY hungry, have you been cutting your calories too low ? (i find if i do this i get super hungry next day or 2 so its counter productive)

ryvita is filling (but not that great tbh - hummus/philly make it bearable!), eggs, greek yogurt, seeds etc good add ons to veg-centric meals to make more filling

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 12/02/2021 07:06

I drink a lot of coffee and tea and water ... basically fill up my tummy with liquid ! And apples take ages to eat and fill you up .. pink lady are my favourite because they are so sweet !

Foreverlexicon · 12/02/2021 07:34

Have you ever considered low carb?

I was always dead set against it as I’m a chocoholic and I don’t believe in cutting out food groups but my partner wanted to do it to lose weight. I want to lose my vanity pounds and be supportive so we started about two weeks ago. I’m not hungry at all, I rarely bother with breakfast now and can go hours without food.

I’ve lost 5.4lb in 10 days (and I’m not overweight) and my partner has lost 8 pounds. Plus if I am peckish I can just grab some cheese or nuts.
