Sister saying she's fat

My sister is really getting on my nerves. She's small like me, with a lovely slim figure, but keeps on telling me how she can 'only just' squeeze into her size 10 jeans and how she needs to lose a stone. As I'm about the same height but a generous size 16 with a bum that you can see from space, this is really pissing me off.

I am short and really have to watch my weight. I feel I have to be very careful what I say to my larger sister. she probably just assumes it just happens naturally with no effort. So I mention it sometimes, because we are sisters and its a huge effort to stay a size 8/10 for me.

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 06/02/2021 07:39

I'm really petite, if I couldn't get into my jeans, it would mean I'd put on weight and I wouldn't be happy. I'd also be pissed off if I wasn't allowed to moan about it with my sister! Just because you're bigger doesn't mean those are smaller aren't allowed to mention their own body issues!

For context, I'm almost 50, so dealing with ageing etc my colleague is older than me but we both talk about wrinkles, saggy bits etc Am I supposed to say nothing because she's much older?

Anyone is entitled to be a bit unhappy with their weight, no matter their size and I guess anyone is allowed to mention it. ‘Keeping on’ about it is beyond tedious- no need to make your weight someone else’s business. It is your sister I suppose!? I would glaze over and ignore her when she talks about it.

Bluntness100 · 06/02/2021 07:59

OP doesn't sound jealous, she sounds quite happy in her own skin

This is quite odd when the op literally stated she’s not happy with her weight

Confused

@KarenMarlow3

She knows I'm not happy with my weight.
And are you doing something about it? If you are you can talk weight loss with your sister. If you aren't I don't think you should be annoyed with her for thinking she wants to lose weight.
PurpleDaisies · 06/02/2021 15:48

I’m guessing this didn’t go the way the op was hoping.

WorraLiberty · 06/02/2021 15:52

You're unhappy with your weight

Your sister is unhappy with her weight

It's not for you to decide that because she's a size 10, she's not allowed to talk about it.

Could you perhaps see it as an opportunity to work together to both feel a bit better about yourselves? Only if you have the type of relationship that could be genuinely supportive obviously.

If you live close enough, perhaps meet up a few times a week for a "power" walk (ie fast enough to get you heart pumping rather than a dawdle and chat) or start c25k together? Or if you aren't local do an online exercise class "together" from your own homes? No weigh in or competitive dieting, just both of you doing something together to help you both feel good.

HelloThereMeHearties · 07/02/2021 11:52

It sounds like your sister's "lovely slim figure" has taken her some effort. And you are jealous of her because you haven't put the effort in.

Honestly, sort yourself out first and then moan about your sister when you've put the work in that she has.
