New approach - inspiration needed

2 stone (ish) overweight and so listless and lethargic. Need some inspiration for a fresh start.

I don’t want a gimmicky diet, or to cut out entire food groups. I don’t want to count calories. I just want to try making sure that nearly everything I eat is healthy. Lots of water. Lots of vegetables. Daily exercise and see how it goes.

I want to eat things like tasty interesting salads and just feel bloody healthy for a change. Nice smoothies. Lots of nutritious stuff.

So although I don’t need a diet I could do with a book or regime I could adapt to this new wonderful lifestyle - just wondering if anyone could suggest anything I could use as a starting point?

Any other getting healthy tips? No point recommending sleep as I have little kids but upping water consumption is going to be number 1 goal.

if you want to make sure nearly everything you eat is healthy...google nutritarian diet. even if you only adopt some of it, it may give some ideas

I have implemented it (in a not v strict way) & its working well for me

Even if you don't want to be vegetarian, thinking about nutrient density is a straightforward approach

I have just been thinking the same. Going to try cutting out booze and junk food. Not doing a 'diet' as such but just anything too unhealthy for a fresh start.

I can't swim or go to the gym and have been putting on weight as well, coupled with too much rubbish since Christmas in particular.

Also needing inspiration for February. My neighbour is on her own so for January I challenged her to walk everyday, I do this anyway as I have a dog so we have walked together. We average 5k walking every morning but my jeans are no looser.
I am going to try no alcohol for February and do an extra form of exercise (will involve me getting up earlier!, thinking of 30 min cardio/dance routine before I go walking) and to drink more water and earlier bedtime routine. 28 days should be ok to start with.

Extremes just don’t work for me, if I ban alcohol for a month I’ll crack at some point and binge. So I think the aim needs to be to be healthier without striving for perfection.

Weighed myself this morning and I’m back to 2lbs off the weight I was after my last baby who is 2 next month. Could be worse I guess.

I’ve just bought Ottolenghi’s new book Flavour. It’s not marketed as a health book, but the recipes look delicious and healthy - mainly veggie dishes. I can’t wait to get started on some of them.
