Looks like my skin didn't get the weight lose memo!

I have been happily losing weight since September, around 2lbs a week. So far I'm down 60lbs, still another 40lbs to go though.
I'm 55 years old, 5'4, was 240lbs, now 180, should be around 140lbs.
I'm eating OMAD and walking around 5k a day for exercise.
All in all I am very pleased with my progress.
This morning though I caught myself in the mirror, the sun shining in seemed to catch the fact that I am beginning to look like a melting candle. Skin is very crepey and shit looking really. I'm not a candidate for Skin Tight yet, but not looking good Blush
I understand that older ladies and a big weight loss is probably not a good combination Hmm
I don't want to alter what I'm doing as after years of yo-yo dieting I have found something that is working, doesn't feel restrictive and I can do long term.
I just bought hand weights (3kg) and have recently started doing pilates.
Do I just have to accept the sagging, icky skin, avoid the mirror/sun combo or is there something more constructive I can do?

Just exercise I think. Building muscle will help. Walking isn't going to cut it.

Don't forget to drink loads of water as well. The skin is the largest organ in the body and the first to suffer when we're not hydrated enough.

gamerchick · 29/01/2021 10:59

And congratulations, you've done really well so far Grin

Thecatsbutler · 29/01/2021 11:10

Thanks gamerchick I do drink a lot of water around 2.5-3 litres a day. I always use body lotion too. Looks like I have to up my game with exercise then. I enjoy walking as it gets my blood pumping, I really push myself.

Walkings fine but it's not enough if you want that coveted shape.

I'm just about to start the week long skipping challenge incidentally. If cardio is your thing then that could be a good place to start. Or holla hoops. But weight training gives a lovely shape and skin improves.

Thecatsbutler · 29/01/2021 11:36

I have hip issues, so no skipping for me. I think weights might be the way to go.

There's no exercise you can do for the skin though sadly

No but building muscle helps.

Exercise, moisturise twice a day, maybe try liposomal vitamin C. It can take a while for the skin to tighten up as far as it is going to after weight loss so you could be seeing improvement for up to a year or so after you get to where you want weight-wise.

Well done on your progress.

PragmaticWench · 30/01/2021 17:56

Also make sure you're wearing spf50 every day, especially if you're out walking.

Well done! I think if you're talking face and neck, then a retinol product is the only proven product to tighten skin. I'd spring for a dermatologist and go for prescription strength & proper advice.

Thecatsbutler · 30/01/2021 20:57

Thanks for the tips. I actually started using the Boots No7 revive & restore (pink one!) range and the retinol for night. It says not to use on neck area, but I think I might try it. I've also started body brushing and using a good moisturiser.
As I still have more weight to lose I'm don't want my ' finished product' to be a disappointment with flappy, crepey skin. Shock Hmm Definitely need to get into strength training.
