Drinking water to help with weight loss (sorry for a bit of tmi)

I've recently started a real effort to lose weight, and have upped my water intake. I used to average around 1.5L a day anyway, but I bought a new bottle which holds 2.2L, and I make sure I drink it throughout the day every single day. I've been doing this for around the last month or so, but I can't stop weeing. I wee on average around 8-10 times during the day, and anywhere between 2-6 times at night. Is this normal!? Will it settle once my body is used to this amount of water? Or is it something I need to investigate? It is getting annoying that I can't make it through a night without waking up multiple times

I would just cut down again. Drinking more water is always one of those things that’s said to people trying to lose weight. The key thing is what you’re eating and drinking in terms of calories and nutrition. As long as you’re not dehydrated, drinking gallons on top isn’t going to do anything.

Might want to get checked at the doctors. I have the same trouble tbh, and when I mentioned it to my doctor, I was tested for diabetes. It came back negative, so I still don't know why I wee so much. 🤷‍♀️

CheddarGorgeous · 27/01/2021 20:50

You're drinking far too much water unless you are living in a tropical country or running daily marathons!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/01/2021 21:47

I would be concerned about the number of night wake ups tbh. It's not THAT big difference to make you wake up up to 6 times. I drink 3l, I think? Maybe more? I have no idea tbh I just drink when I am thirsty, and I don't wake up at all for toilet.

Avelandra · 02/02/2021 10:32

@cheddargorgeous it's not far too much, the recommended amount for my weight is over 3L per day

@blubberball I have already been tested as I have insulin problems due to PCOS, but was negative for diabetes. Do you drink a lot during the day?

when do you stop drinking on the evening?

CheddarGorgeous · 02/02/2021 17:12

@Avelandra where did your recommendation come from? If you're just peeing it straight back out then it's not doing you any good!

Northernsoullover · 02/02/2021 18:00

Ok, my go for TMI... when I was regularly constipated I would wee around 10-15 times a night. Being ahem..full ..left no room for my bladder. Are you regularly opening your bowels? hope no poo troll hanging around

Northernsoullover · 02/02/2021 18:02

It is too much water by the way.

Northernsoullover · 02/02/2021 18:03

It can actually make you ill.

BIWI · 02/02/2021 18:04

Are you following any kind of diet? If you're low carbing, then you do need to drink plenty of water. But just drinking more water on its own won't help!

I'd say that if it still hasn't settled down after a month, that you're drinking too much - and probably too much late in the day.

Sycamoretrees · 02/02/2021 18:15

Drinking 2.2L of water through the course of a day really isn't a problem, weeing that much however is something that perhaps needs investigating just to rule out other issues. Especially as you've noticed a change.

gamerchick · 02/02/2021 18:19

Everyone who ups their water like that pisses like a racehorse for a while and yes it does settle down as you get used.

Avelandra · 02/02/2021 18:43

I have my last drink around 6pm with my tea, and yes I am following a diet

Apparently you are meant to sip slowly so it doesn’t just run straight through you

workworkworkugh · 13/02/2021 05:39

Peeing up to 6 times overnight does seem a lot but It should settle down once your body gets used to the increased intake.
I can't understand the people saying it is far too much, it isn't, around 2L should be the average intake for an adult, and peeing a lot does also not mean that it's a waste and doing nothing Confused

PlugUgly1980 · 13/02/2021 06:19

I easily drink 6 pints of water a day, and copious amounts of decaf coffee and the off glass of squash, so well over 3 litres of water alone. I wake on once in the night for a wee.

Spodge · 13/02/2021 17:27

Could it be hormonal? I am in peri menopause and one of the very irritating things that happened to me before going on to HRT was an increased frequency and urgency for a wee. I have always drunk a lot of water and it was never an issue until peri.

buckeejit · 13/02/2021 17:54

Bloody hell, I just did an online calculator to check & it says I should be drinking 5 litres a day!

I have about 3L id say & feel like I wee a lot. I don't have time to go to the toilet more than this!
