Not losing weight

Januaryissodull · 20/01/2021 11:42

Does anyone else have this problem? Or have any tips/encouragement?

My bmi is 23, so not overweight, but I want to lose a stone and get my bmi to 21.

I already lost a stone 2 years ago and have kept it off, but now I want to get this last stone off.

Since new year I've been eating 1350 calories or less. Log everything on MFP. Don't snack at all, I've been exercising 5 times a week. Runningx3, a bike ride and a session of strength/weights.

My meals are still quite carby on a typical day I have porridge for breakfast, chicken/salmon salad roll/wrap wholemeal and a normal meal such as a roast, stir fry, homemade curry. I weigh ingredients and don't have big portions. No sweet treats. I don't think I can face cutting carbs right now but in Summer I do eat salads for lunch.

Although I'm feeling better, I can't shift any weight, not even a measly pound.

According to my Fitbit I'm burning 1900 calories per day, so don't know why I'm not losing when I'm eating 1350 or less.

Intermittent fasting for two days a week?

midgebabe · 20/01/2021 11:47

Age/height and muscalarity all needed info

Very easy to only do exercise and be generally inactive

fruitpastille · 20/01/2021 11:52

I find it really hard - similar BMI and exercise. My downfall is the bits between meals!
My gym's nutrition advice is
B. Lean protein, veg, carb (fruit counts as carb)
L. Lean protein, veg, carb
D. Protein, veg, fat
If I follow this and don't snack it works. I find it easier and more sustainable day to day than a low carb approach.

I do greek yog, berry, spinach smoothies for breakfast and usually eggs of some kind for lunch. Eat the same as the family for dinner but not the carby bit and sensible portions. Or that's the theory anyway!

Januaryissodull · 20/01/2021 12:49

I could try intermittent fasting. Don't really want to but it would probably get things moving.

I'm mid 30s, 5"5, no idea about muscularity tbh. I'm sure I could gain more muscle but I'm not flabby either. Do have a desk job so not that active, but then when home I'm doing a lot of housework.

Just a bit disheartened that I've cut my food intake, upped my exercise but haven't lost anything.

It's much harder and slower to lose weight when you are already at a healthy weight. Why do you want to lose more?

Beans13 · 20/01/2021 17:43

You will lose weight if you eat less calories than you need. You honestly can't be tracking correctly.

How often do you weigh yourself? It will be moot weighing yourself if you've eaten a highly salty meal the day previous

Januaryissodull · 20/01/2021 17:46

It probably is harder.

So I'm currently almost 10 stone and would like to be 9 stone. Reasons are years ago when I have been closer to 9 stone which for me is a bmi of 21, I feel much better and more confident.

I'm a similar bmi. I need to consistently not eat more than 1000cals to lose weight. I'm not sedentary it's just how it is.

Januaryissodull · 20/01/2021 17:54

I definitely 100% am tracking my calories correctly. I weigh everything when I'm cooking.

I have for example a 30g bowl of porridge, a wholemeal roll (check the calories on the packet) with 1/2 tin of salmon or some chicken or boiled egg, a few berries and 3 tbsps of Greek yoghurt then my evening meal which is being cooked from scratch with weighed ingredients. No snacks at all, drinking only water.

It's extremely annoying. I do weigh more than once a week I've been doing this now since 4th Jan, perhaps I'm expecting too much too soon.

Argh that's not good. I have lost a stone this way previously, but now have been doing this since 4th Jan with no luck. If I cut out some carbs that will work but really can't get into salads at this time of year.

We're the same height and weight, also early 30s.

I want to lose a stone for the same reasons as you. I'm doing 5:2 with my DP. However, I'm doing hardly any exercise - lockdown fatigue!

I've lost 2kg since 06.01. I haven't taken any measurements yet though.

5:2 has been a lot easier than I imagined - I've broken one fast day since I started, for evening wine, and I just picked another day to make up for it.

Spodge · 20/01/2021 18:19

Are you measuring yourself as well as weighing? If the reason you want to lose weight is actually to be a bit more trim rather than because you intrinsically care about the precise number on the scale then maybe the exercise is what you should be majoring on. And you may find you lose size quicker than actual weight.

Going back to a weight that was right years ago is challenging and not necessarily the answer. I was ten stone in my early 20s but would be too thin at that weight now. I am just under 12 and working towards 11 as a minimum.

Januaryissodull · 20/01/2021 18:49

Thanks, haven't been measuring no. I will start doing that as another way of gauging if what I'm doing is making a difference.

Is 5:2 where you only eat 500 calories for 2 days of the week? I could do that and I'm sure it would work. What worries me about that is that is just regain once I started eating normally again. Wouldn't want to do it long term.

I’m absolutely where you are at, I can’t seem to shift any pounds at all despite tracking really closely and regular big exercise, runs, bike, body pump and yoga. I think though that maybe the intense exercise has built muscle? My bum is deffo bigger in a muscled way. Could this be what’s going on with you? However! I still want to lose fat WHILST gaining muscle! And I too am at a bit of a loss of how to do it. Eating less than
1500 cals daily with a super active job too, it just doesn’t seem correct somehow. I ress asking don’t want to drop my cake much lower because tgat doesn’t seem a good idea either! My last ditch attempt now is to cut out all complex carbs and try and up my protein but also my fat, which I think i virtually cut out completely to get my cals right down. This plan is based in no science but literally because I can’t think if a single other thing to do!

Anyway, sorry for rambling! But you are not alone!
