Zero weight loss but why

I've been sober and so sensible for 8 days and yet I've not lost a bloody pound!

A typical day is cereals for breakfast, half a Covent Garden veg soup for lunch & jacket spud for dinner with small piece of cheese and peas & water or green tea only to drink.

I need to lose a stone. Why isn't it happening!

Have you calculated your TDEE? You need to work out how many calories your body burns normally, and then take 500 off that to lose a 1lb a week. What you've listed doesn't sound like loads of food but if you're not that overweight in the first place you might need to restrict your calories further to lose.

All that said- it's only been 8 days! When I've started a new diet it's often taken a couple of weeks to show anything on the scales.

Ingridla · 19/01/2021 10:06

H thank you, I've just done that calculation. I suspect I need to up the exercise somewhat. I'll keep going!

How often are you weighing? If you gain weight (water) mid cycle or before your period, that might be covering things

If you are not very overweight that can slow things. How old are you, were you over-eating before (if not, that might be a bit slower. Its easy to lose weight if you suddenly stop having crisps/chocolate/alcohol Grin)

Your breakfast & lunch are v carb heavy... what kind of cereal do you eat? Does it have sugar? How MUCH of it are you eating? Could you do eg Fat free greek yogurt with a banana & smaller amount of oats/your cereal

Dinner: if you would like to lose weight, maybe experiment with few carbs at night, more protein.

Switching your main meal to lunch, and having a lighter dinner often works too - you only have a stone to lose so its for a couple of months. Even if you do this several nights a week it would make a difference

As PP says, you need to know your daily calorie needs & track your daily calories so you know if you are in deficit

Are you exercising? HIIT/weights don't take that long & will make a difference

I'm 43, 5' 5 and 10st 4. Thing is I'm eating (and drinking) considerably less than I was. Exercise wise, I'm doing dumbbell weights in the evenings (mostly) and I'm pretty much on my feet all day as my son is 4 which means rarely a quiet minute.

I feel like I'm on track with that TDEE tracker but maybe I'm kidding myself, I do guess calories rather than calculate properly Grin

at 5 5 and 10st 4, you might not have that much weight to lose, unless you have generally been a lot lighter in your adult life

Diet & exercise will help you look better (trimmer, toned) & be healthier, but you might not lose a lot of weight

I still think that reducing your carbs and eating more unprocessed food is your best bet

SunnySideDownBriefly · 19/01/2021 15:08

Try tracking a couple of meals on My Fitness Pal - it won't be too time consuming as that sounds like a teensy amount to eat to me! And eating so many carbs must surely result in you feeling hungry all day and they will certainly make you retain more water which could explain the scales being stuck.

You need to get a bit more protein in there and weigh things...everything! It makes such a difference. If you aren't seeing any weight loss yet then there must be some serious water retention going on which will drop when you veer a little more towards protein and less salt.

Like others have said, more veg, more protein and less carbs! And make sure the carbs you're eating are the wholegrain versions.

newyearnewme21 · 19/01/2021 15:59

Guessing calories has never worked for me, you'd be surprised where they sneak in if you're not weighing your portions! Get on my fitness pal, its free, and stick to the calories they assign you for your height and weight and goal.

Yeah, guesstimates don't work😁 I too guesstimated😂
Log everything for few days and see where you are really at. It will budge

Ingridla · 19/01/2021 19:11

Thanks I've taken all of these comments on. I'll try the fitness pal thing.

Good job!

Januaryissodull · 20/01/2021 13:25

Following too op, do update on how you get on.

I'm similar height/weight to you. 5"5 and 9 stone 13, want to get to 9 stone.

Since new year I've upped my exercise and cut right back on calories but not losing any. Have previously lost a stone.

Think I need to tweak a few things in my diet now. In the past I've found the weight comes off if I cut out carbs in one of my meals, so hard though.

SunnySideDownBriefly · 21/01/2021 11:33

Yes! So pleased for you. Keep tracking and you will keep seeing progress.

namechangefail2020 · 21/01/2021 11:48

Good work. I was going to say I've been on a diet 3 weeks now and the first week nothing happened, now half a pound comes off every few days so maybe just takes a while for the body to rid of the fat once's the changes are made. Good luck!! I have one stone left too and keep picturing myself in a bikini to spur me on :-)

Ingridla · 22/01/2021 21:48

I've weighed in at 10st for the past 2 mornings so that's pleased me. I've gone way over my recommended calories on MyFitnessPal today tough as am due on, bugger!
