If a virus that is more deadly for fat people won’t make me loose weight...what will?

Myself and a friend are trying to loose weight. I need about a stone and she needs closer to 5 stone. We have tried a few times in lockdown but haven’t succeeded. We both know that the virus is worst for overweight people and yet we still haven’t found the motivation to succeed.

My question is this, if you finally succeeded to loose the weight (and had struggled before) what was your motivation/driving force that finally made you succeed?

Covid has provided me with good motivation. Lost around 3 stone last year, slipped back a bit over Christmas, but now doing well again. Doing 16:8 and have started couch to 5k. Still have a long way to go, but the fear factor from covid has definitely given me a boot up the backside.

That’s great @AlexaShutUp, I love the username also

I realised that this was the best opportunity I’d ever have. I always complain that I don’t have time to cook healthily on a regular basis, and I would exercise more if only I had more time. Time is now the one thing I have in spades, so all my previous excuses are null and void.

Lockdown 1 was an easy excuse to sit and eat and drink because we didn’t know what was happening and never thought it would take this long. We’re at the point of having to learn to live with it for now, so I’m making the most of it.

I’m also suffering a bit with poor mental health and although sticking to a diet, not drinking and exercising is hard, the benefits to my mood are unbelievable.

I believe the stress hormone cortisol inhibits weightloss. We've all had plenty of stress this year.
I second trying 16:8.

Your right @Letsnotargue this is a great time to put aside my excuses

@DianaT1969 I will look into it, I have heard good things

Going lo carb and cutting out sugar. Sort of switched off my cravings.

This. No long exhausting commute, and no social life (boozy nights out/restaurants) mean some of my main barriers are removed

Lockdown 1 was a really anxious time, I wasn’t thinking about my weight, lockdown 2 : I packed on pounds from boredom eating. We are now EITHER coming out if it, or having to live with it... either way I do think this will be last proper lockdown and I want better health/figure to show for it, and be back in my old clothes after a year in leggings!

Eating healthily and exercising is doing wonders for my mood, and a fitness/weight loss journey is a healthy and positive focus for me.

Vaccine will be more effective if not overweight too..

I honestly believe no diet will work. Exercise is the way to lose weight. Any diet will be short term results. Exercise changes your mindset and body! I was in such a rut of awful eating after my ds2. In May, I started walking, this progressed to running. I now run 5k every other day. I made slight tweaks to my diet, like I only have chocolate in the evenings. I have lost 2 1/2 stone and feel great. The first run is awful and it feels like it will take ages to shift the weightbut after about 2 months, i really noticed a difference.

Bringonspring · 12/01/2021 23:04

Great points, I really want to emerge from this feeling more healthy. You’re all right this would be such a missed opportunity

You’re right on the exercise front also

Not for everyone, but Overeaters Anonymous can help you get into underlying emotional issues etc.

I think weight is a much more complex issue than we often realise and warrants a more in depth approach.
