I can't cook and I can't eat fats...help

I have been living on the following and I need some more ideas :-

: Salad with turkey/ham/tuna and pita bread/crackerbread

: Jacket with turkey/ham/tuna and salad garnish

: Pasta salad with one tablespoon of 5% fat mayo.

: Soup with crackerbread/dry bread

: Low fat noodles on dry toast

: Rice with boil in the bag (6% fat) cod in parsley sauce with steamed vegetables

: fruit/snack a jack as treats

I am so bored what else can I eat which is easy to prepare and must be less than 10% fat though I prefer 5%

I use to really enjoy eating and now it is such a chore finding something that won't send me to A&E in pain

After 2 weeks in hospital and having my gall bladder removed months ago and I am STILL having pain.

Sorry to moan...looking for cheap low fat recipes, with very few ingredients so I have a chance of cooking them.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I know you asked for recipe ideas for low fat cooking but I am really concerned that your GP doesn't seem to be pulling out the stops here to find out what is causing you all this pain. Have you thought of getting a second opinion or changing your GP? A 'fresh' opinion can sometimes diagnose something fairly quickly, IYKWIM?

I am having a blood test in two weeks time when the lady who takes the blood is back off holiday and have been told to go to A&E in the meantime if I get a bad pain. But they have decided that I have reflux, I don't think it is reflux. I had reflux when I was pregnant and it is just a small amount of discomfort and burning, whereas this pain takes my breath away.

Maybe I should try a second opinion but I have seen nearly every doctor at my local surgery and none of them picked up on the gall bladder thing.

And as this attack has gone away, they won't look into more tests (apart from the blood test) until/if the pain comes back.

Poor you

Just because you need to lose more weight, and you are, doesn't mean that this is okay. You should be able to lose weight by enjoying a sensible diet, not by having to be so strict about fat intake. And even overweight people need some fat.

People who are slimming really need to be able to enjoy food, otherwise it'll never work long term, so I am surprised at your Docs attitude. Bottom line is, if you are suffering, he whould be helong you. x

And I forgot to say, a great snack is chickpeas, or any canned bean, straight out of the can. Easy as pie. (But no fat!)

stir fry (with fry light) (you can buy ready made packs of the veg) and ready cooked noodles (don't get fresh get amoy or smiliar on the chinese sauce aisle) fry up the stir fry for 5 mins, fry noodles for few minutes then add low fat sweet chilli sauce or similar. Scrummy

Ask your Doctor to refer you for another scan as you may still have those evil little stones running around in your billary tree. Had same problem with continued pain and thats what it was.

BabiesEverywhere · 23/10/2007 19:24

I had a scan on Friday they pushed me into an early slot at a private hospital. I think the doctors felt bad that they ignored my pain last time and wanted to get me seen sooner rather than later.

Scan lady said I have a site of infection where my gall bladder use to be (the size of a ping pong ball) and my splean (SP) is enlarged dealing with this infection. But she doesn't think this is causing my pain and I need no meds for this infection as the body is dealing with it. This is left over from my problem gall bladder surgery and post op infection.

She can not see any additional stones in my common duct etc at the moment and my liver and kidneys etc look fine but that does not mean I don't have any stones for sure.

God I have had the worst healht luck in the last 14 months Surely things have got to get better soon.

On Friday I went straight from Scan to my doctors and waited until he could see me.

I gave him a verbal report on what the scan lady had told me and that is when he said that my problem was reflux

Thank you for all the suggestions...we have had chicken with herbs (rice and steamed veg) twice this week...just stuff I had in the cupboard.

I bought noddles and miso soup, cous cous and a couple of new veg to try...sugar snap peas and something else...on top of my normal salad and veg stuff.

I also bought a small piece of fish for a treat tonight.

I'm glad we were able to help. Have you tried any of the Quorn or Linda McCartney vegetarian dishes - they are very low in fat! A bit more expensive as well though but might be nice for a change and your DH/DP won't be able to tell the difference with the Quorn mince (well mine doesn't anyway!).

Please keep us updated on your treatment.

Yes, I found this thread very supportive and helpful.

I suppose food use to be a lovely habit/vice for me I looked forward to our weekly takeaway and a bar of chocolate.

I feel forced into eating low fat food forever which I don't enjoy. I use to look forward to meals now they are just something to have to do to live. I just need to accept that I will never again have any of the kind of food I love and get over it. Maybe I'll start smoking again so I still have a vice(joke)

I have eaten quorn before but find it expensive. I might have a look at the real vegetable grills etc and have to look at the fat content.

No way DH will eat quorn or a vegetable main...he is well and truly a meat eater and he won't eat the low fat stuff I eat, which makes it doubly hard to make evening meals.

At least the half bottle of red wine in my kitchen has no flipping fat...hurrah

You really are in a difficult position and I do feel for you

Let's hope the doctors sort this out for you ASAP. I suppose the only good thing about all of it is all the weight you have lost so well done for that!! But like other posters have said, your body does need to take some kind of fat to keep going! Take care x

BabiesEverywhere · 26/10/2007 12:24

MM I could hug you

~Carries virtual crate of wine away~

I have actually got a piece of salmon for my tea, which is about 20% fat but healthy fat...I'm in two minds whether or not to eat it...but as you said our bodies do need some fat..maybe I'll just stick to 2000 calories of wine per day

Hi, After I had my gall bladder out I was able to eat fatty foods no problem. However before that I ate a lot of Heinz spagetti on toast! A bit boring but so quick and easy if you are on the go. It only has a trace of fat so you can eat as much of it as you like and its really filling.
