Intermittent fasting

Hello
I was wondering if anyone does this or has done this. If it's worked. And how they've found it. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm looking at the daily one at the moment.

Hello
Intermittent Fasting is not an appropriate topic for the Eating Disorder section of this forum as the recommended meal plan for all Eating Disorders is usually 3 meals and 3 snacks (ie food every 3 hours) as missing meals can trigger eating disorders in vulnerable people.
If you are looking to use IF as a way of losing weight in a mentally stable person, I think you want the weight loss club (I appreciate this may be a mistake on your behalf)
Are you ok? Smile

Did you really mean to post this here?

I have skipped breakfast since before 16:8 became a "thing". It is the only thing that has enabled me to lose weight (5 1/2 stone) and keep it off. This is in conjunction with food logging and calorie counting. The eating window is simply a tool to make it easier to keep to my calories, since I have never felt hungry for breakfast anyway.

Intermittent fasting works because you are eating in less hours so you are less likely to snack in the evenings. It makes you more mindful about food. It is not an eating disorder or recommended for those getting over such a disorder.

Yes I have do it and it is working for me along with watching my calories and awareness of portion size. I am never hungry in the morning and used to eat because it was breakfast time. Also realised I was having a pastry biscuit with my morning coffee when I did not want it. I tend to fast from around 8pm to 1pm most days.

The theory is that you can use intermittent fasting to lose weight and as a result support you weight loss goals. There have been no large scale long term studies so it is unclear whether intermittent fasting is superior to other weight loss methods.

It is also worth noting, Intermittent Fasting doesn’t need to just be for weight loss. It can be used to sustain the weight loss once you have reached your weight loss goal.

It looks like you are trying time-restricted fasting - this is the approach I used doing the 16/8 method where I fasted for 16 hours of the day and only ate during the other 8 hours.

For me it does work in that the main benefit is that it helps you in eating fewer calories to generate weight loss.

The only true way to lose weight is to be in a calorie deficit and how you do that does not matter. In my view, intermittent fasting is simply a mechanism to try and structure your eating habits to make it easier to eat in a calorie deficit consistently.

Hope that helps and good luck! Smile

I started 16:8 this time last year and lost 3 stone in 5 months, from 12 stone to 9 stone. I have found the approach revolutionary and it's excellent for maintaining too. I hate counting calories, and this has eliminated that need in a simple way. I don't eat breakfast, have a small lunch and whatever I want for dinner. I do not eat after dinner which is usually about 6pm, so my eating window is actually 6-7 hours rather than 8.
