Anyone else had one?any advice?I'm considering one for a flap of skin which will never shift regardless of weight or exercise, I'm at my ideal weight now but I've had children and I accept its stretched beyond bounceback.sohas anyone had this? Was it expensive and worth it?how painful?any experiences shared would be appreciated!

No but I would be interested to know how it will be done and what it will cost.

I had an ectopic pregnancy before I had my children. I had a nice flat stomach and when they stitched me up on my bikini line it made a ridge on my tummy and now my tummy sort of hangs over the ridge. I have considered having this done, but have always been scared of the outcome as I have scar tissue from the ectopic.

Have you had a consultation yet?

Yipitsme · 31/10/2020 22:52

@Anordinarymum yes I too have same hang of tummy over appendix and other surgery scar,I'm waiting a date for consultation so will write when I know more.
Are you considering it too

Lots of info on instagram with people who've had tummy tucks, so interesting! Loads of photos too.

I don't honestly know.

I have exercised over the years and still do but it has made very little difference, yet I keep trying.
I just think one scar with no feeling is enough, plus it's not the scar I'm particularly bothered about anyway, as it is below the bikini line and these days I don't wear bikinis :)

If I had it done there would be two scars as you can't do anything with existing scar tissue; so that's a bit off putting, but if there was a way of doing it and not too expensive I would look into it :)
However, I look forward to your thoughts after your consultation. When you look at the clinics online you don't really get enough information, probably because they don't want to commit until they have seen the individual as we are all different.

Some people get lipo. This would not work for me as I would have a load of loose skin which would not shrink back.

Some years ago I was friends with a girl who worked in a law firm dealing specifically with claims against bad surgery and failed tummy tucks were top of the list.
Choose your provider carefully. Ask your GP for a recommendation.

I looked into this.
I even booked the date in the six week school holidays with with a very respected surgeon who had a long waiting list and paid the deposit, but bottled it.

This is major high risk abdominal surgery (I think the term mini tummy tuck makes it sound like a bit of a nip and tuck) with painful, long recovery. When it came to the crunch, I was too scared about the surgery and the results over the long term - i.e. 10 years down the line.

Good luck, but please research it carefully.

I had a full tummy tuck with muscle repair back in January. I was 3 yrs at my happy weight but the apron just didnt shift - it made me feel like all my hard work shifting 4 stone wasnt paying off in the one area that I hated. I did a lot of research and saw a couple of surgeons before booking. The first few weeks were painful and I felt like a bent over old lady but that was due to the muscle repair, not the incision. My scar is fading, I look better wearing 'normal' clothes and my mindset about my body has changed - but that was the bit that took the longest. I don't have the flat tummy of a 19yr old as I'm a little older and have a bit of skin laxity due to my huge stretch marks but myself and my surgeon were realistic about that and I feel like my results make me look quite natural.
Personally, my only regret is not doing it years ago but I hadn't lost the weight then so time was right for me. I'm on Instagram if you want to have a look - tuckrightoff

I think there was an AMA on this a few weeks ago and the lady had posted pictures through the process.

Tootsietoot · 10/11/2020 22:18

@MuthaHubbard would you mind telling us how much it was.

MuthaHubbard · 10/11/2020 22:28

@Tootsietoot £6956 - that was for tt, mr and some lipo to flanks

Tootsietoot · 11/11/2020 13:01

@muthahubbard thank you. I better get back to sit ups for now having looked at my bank balance! Good to know though so sometime to think about.

@Anordinarymum I had a nice flat stomach and when they stitched me up on my bikini line it made a ridge on my tummy and now my tummy sort of hangs over the ridge.

I have this too, along with a bulge on the right side where I sustained muscle damage during pregnancy. I also have some badly stretched out skin as I'd had a laparoscopy and keyhole surgery 6 weeks before become pregnant, so all the scarring from that got stretched and warped before it healed. After years of just accepting that there was nothing I could do other than surgery which I would not be having, by chance I started skating as a hobby.

Within 6 months I'd developed visible upper abs and the overhang and bulge had reduced drastically. I also lost a little weight in this time with my BMI going from 22 to 20 despite a lot of muscle building so I lost a good bit of excess fat from my tummy area. A few months later I'd started doing some gymnastics/inversion yoga to supplement my skating, with a little upper body strength work and I had a full 6 pack. The over hang had gone and the rightside bulge wasn't really noticeable anymore. I still had loose skin that you could see crinkled up if I bent over or that would hang a bit like two little triangles if I was doing push-ups/planks in my knickers. And I still had the warped scar tissue but they didn't really feel like the first thing someone would notice about my stomach anymore.

A bout of long covid, led to me spending about 3 and half months mostly in bed and then limited the exercises I could do for another 3 and a half months. (I'm nearly close to normal activity again now.) So I've lost that level of ab definition for now. But it's definitely possible to make an enormous difference to your tummy area with diet and exercise. It won't ever be the perfect tummy of an athletic 19 year old but it can potentially be something you feel genuinely happy to look at. And even better, be a sign of a strong core that lets you do physical things that seem like a fantasy now!

Ice skating? Or inline skating? Just out of interest.

alittleprivacy · 12/11/2020 09:32

We don't have a permanent ice rink any where near us, so I only ice skate at Christmas. (Not this year obviously.) I do rollerskating and inline skating. i took my DS to meet some friends at the roller rink and once he got the hang of it, I got a chance to do a bit of skating myself and remembered how much fun it is. I couldn't do anything other than skate forwards then but quickly learned a lot more. I had never known but you can figure skate on rollerskates, so I've learned a number of figure skating elements and other kinds of dance that's more particular to rollerskating.

I inline skate outside as inlines work better outdoors. It's great as skating has more physical benefits than running and less impact on the joints. And it's honestly just so much more fun than running. I use rollerskates at the skatepark too, but other than learning to pump in a halfpipe, I don't have a lot of skatepark tricks down yet. (Pumping is an utterly amazing core workout though, I rarely feel my core working when I'm skating but I feel it instantly when I pump.)

It's a wonderful way to exercise. I can go to the rink with DS and basically exercise for hours at a time, either while has his own fun or doing some of the things we do together. And while I'm 'exercising' it never feels like that, I'm literally just spending a few hours playing with my friends which is a wonderful thing to get to do as an adult.

DownUdderer · 13/11/2020 09:36

I have inline skates on my Xmas list, and I'm so glad after reading your experience!! I'll be 40 in January and I just really fancy inline skating!

alittleprivacy · 13/11/2020 10:28

What kind of skating do you mainly want to do? Skating as an alternative to jogging? If so I recommend getting skates designed for distance, especially at our age. I bought a decent pair of recreational skates when I started (also at 40) and after my first marathon distance my knees hurt so much I couldn't skate for about 10 days. A few months later I bought a pair specifically designed for long distance and the difference is utterly incredible. I can easily do a double marathon now, with no joint problems. They are a bit more expensive but a hell of a lot cheaper than new knees!

I also recommend getting safety gear, knee pads, wrist guards and a helmet (a bike helmet should be fine for that type of skating). I've never fallen yet on my inlines, but I have hit speeds of close to 50km/p/h, so it's worth having safety gear. And find a way to carry water. I use a camel pack if I'm out for a long skate. I might look like a complete nerd, but I couldn't do the distances I do without water. I also carry a pair of fold up swimming shoes, either in case of an accident where I need to take my skate off and walk. Or for if I'm going to stop for lunch somewhere on a skating day out.

And check out this channel on youtube for skating advice. There are lots of great ones out there but this is the absolute best. I'm actually hoping to do a class with her one day when Covid restrictions are in the past.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I want to get out as an alternative to jogging.
