Aspirational Trousers

Just wondered if this was a thing that a lot of people do...

I am on my way down from having been size 22-24, now wearing size 16-18. I have bought myself a pair of size 14 jeans which I really can't wear yet - need to lose another few inches first, but I feel really happy to own something in such a low (for me) size ie bought from a non-plus-size store. I am hoping that watching the gap between button and button hole gradually shrink will be motivational. Does anyone else do this?

I have a dress that I've never really been able to wear, a few (7) years ago I could squeeze into it but I couldn't sit down and breathe in it. It's a sailor style retro wiggle dress in about a size 16 I think.

I was a size 22 a few months ago too (5 ft 8, 233lb), I do t really know what size I am now but I'm down to 198lb and all my clothes are hanging off me. A couple of weeks ago I managed to squeeze into that dress. It was tight, there was the definite possibility I'd need to be cut out, but I did it. Will try it again in a couple of weeks to see if it's a better fit.

Out of interest what height and weight are you now?

#FatGirlShrinking I am 2 inches shorter than you, and was a bit fatter - more like 260lb when I was wearing size 22-24. Down to about 179lb now.

I can't afford to buy a whole new wardrobe and I am fairly competent with a sewing machine so mostly I am doing alterations on my larger clothes to make them less baggy. But I hope to be a size 12 or even 10 one day so I don't want to put too much effort into tailoring to this hopefully-temporary in-between size.

Jeans aren't easy to tailor though. So buying those. The size 18 jeans I am wearing at the moment and which are getting a bit too baggy to wear without a belt were "aspirational" when I bought them - there was a 14cm gap between button and button hole. I bought both the size 20 and the size 18 at the same time, wore the 20 and waited to fit into the 18. The gap shrank eventually and the size 20s can go to the charity shop.
