Help me get under 10 stone

Wannatrim · 16/10/2020 00:43

Hi,

I'm currently 10 stone 10 lbs & for my smallish frame & 5' 4" height it is too heavy. At 9 stone 7lbs I was probably a little too skinny so need to lose approx 12lbs. . I love cooking & that's my downfall as I enjoy making lovely recipes (& eating) every evening plus wine most nights.

So I'm going to track my food & try to stick to 1500 calories a day. I'm seeing a PT for weight training twice a week & running @ 5km most days plus a couple of exercise classes & swimming twice a week, but only a few lengths as mainly for relaxation.

Any encouragement/ suggestions welcome!

You're my height. I've just lost a stone over 5 weeks. I am on a weightloss thread, it's friendly and encouraging. It's called something like lose 7lbs in October, join in if you fancy it.

Simples! Just don't eat carbs and protein at the same meal and eat fruit, plenty of seasonal fruit, on an empty stomach not as dessert.

I lost a stone doing it with no extra exercise.

Rather than counting calories I would challenge yourself to take healthy food you love and make it as enjoyable as possible. Try starting with no white carbs in evening meal...wholefoods (beans/lentils/chickpeas) are ok though. Worry less about calories and more about quality of what you are eating - eg half an avocado, same calories as a bag of crisps and both high fat but completely different when it comes to what they do for your body and how you feel after eating them.

16:8 is very effective and manageable for lots of people but try and leave at least 12 hours between dinner and breakfast as a habit.

Alcohol is a killer when it comes to empty calories so if you drink regularly decide how to cut this down...

Track how many cals are in the wine you have - it can be an eye opener! Have wine with soda in it might help reduce that and still be nice.

I don't know how to link but there's a newish thread called 'shorties trying to lose weight'.

There's about 10 of us with similar stats trying to support each other and weigh in on a Friday. x

Flip it so it isn’t a downfall but a strength. I lost a lot switching from take away to fake away and saved a load of cash too. There are loads of delicious recipes that are also healthy. Spicy things are particularly good.

Cut the wine though.

sleepwhen ....rather than counting calories.....

Yes Yes Yes, I have never counted a calorie in my life, I talk about them because everyone seems to be obsessed with them, but I have noticed that both dh and dd2 are both OW and both count calories, IMO and E. you can't maintain your weight loss by doing it! Surely it's more natural and easier to just eat healthily and mindfully. Paul Mackenna and the 16.8. works too.

Though alcohol is really not worth it.

Hey OP.

The main thing I learnt is that you can't outrun a bad diet.

Your gym sessions sound really good, but your diet is the main thing that needs adjusting slightly, as wine is quite calorific.

An eye opener for me was using My Fitness Pal to track my calories. You can scan each food/drink item's barcode and it will log it for you :). Bear in mind, you need to weigh your food correctly aswell with a food scale if it's something like cereal or pasta.

I found this really helpful in knowing exactly what calories i'm eating, and whether I actually need to do any exercise that day or not. It's very easy to underestimate the sheer amount of calories you're having just by eye.

Goodluck with your weightloss journey.

Sorry-wrong thread!

Cut simple carbs, such as refined sugar and anything made with white flour, replace with slow release complex carbs, anything brown.
Cut out wine as much as possible and the weight will come off. Good luck

You are very similar to me Wannatrim. I crept up to 10.10 and want to get to 9 12 and am also 5.4. i used to be nearer 9 but I in the athlete body fat range then. I now lift quite a lot of weights now am more muscular, but still a bit tubby. Am now more like 10.3 so it's working so far.

I have just been watching my weight for 5 weeks using MFP, though had a week or two off for my birthday. Although I agree with others you can't calorie count all your life, I personally find MFP good to get an idea of current food intake and just easy adjustments that don't bother me much perosnally. I am trying to be aware of swops that I can make in the long term through this. I think, for me, always eating healthy breakfasts and lunches and not snacking is highly viable. In the long run, I am a sociable person and need more flexiblity around dinner - it wouldn't be viable to never eat out, or say yes to pudding - but earlier in the day, restraint is just not a problem.

And wine - that's my killer too. I am willing to bet that if I had never drunk in my life, I would be very slim indeed. What is working best for me now is setting a number of nights a week where I don't really drink, but what I do is have a posh tonic water (Fevertree light) with a dash of grapefruit bitters, ice, fruit, so it is genuinely a treat. I work very very hard, and I just find that for me it replaces a way of having a grown up treat that transfers me to wind down in the evening - the bitters are nice and savoury but negligible booze. I am also working on having fewer wine days, when we might instead of opening a bottle of wine share a small beer, or a G and T. Otherwise I find that if me and DH open wine, we drink too much of it. Anyhow, you may not be as awful as me on that front but GOOD LUCK

HyaluronicHippo · 17/10/2020 15:35

Wine most nights, how much? It trial cutting the wine out for a month and making no other changes.

ShellyMall · 17/10/2020 18:11

Hello. I also love to cook and my husband and I try to eat only natural food. Yes, it's important to stick to a prema meal schedule, but it's even more important to eat slowly and only choose foods that you really enjoy. The body is saturated faster with tasty food. What do you think about this?

ppeatfruit · 18/10/2020 10:02

I love to cook and I like to follow a vegan diet, it's a challenge to cook tasty , filling food without dairy and I try to I rise to it! The secret is using plenty of herbs\onions,garlic etc. plus yeast flakes in the stocks for soups\stews etc.
