When did you notice a difference?

Into my third week of proper gym grind and calorie deficit (bar a day here and there!)
I’ve transformed my diet and really pleased with myself as I was a bit of a fast foodie before!

That was until I made the mistake of looking at myself in the mirror this morning after a shower Sad

All the wobbly bits are still there. I feel like I haven’t changed one bit. I’m not really sure what I was expecting to see after 2 1/2 weeks but I just feel...deflated. I can’t stand the look of myself.

When did you start to see a real difference? You know, the wobbly bits slowly shrinking, more muscle definition etc.

It’s taken the wind out of my sails a bit.

It depends on your starting weight. The bigger you are the more time it takes to notice.

Honestly, for me, it was 50lbs.

I was 16st 7lbs though so pretty huge. When I lose 10lbs now it's so much more noticeable than when I started.

Just keep going. If you're consistent you will see a difference.

I'm doing kayla itsine's bbg programme and aiming for a 500 cal deficit. I didn't notice anything until I was maybe 4 or 5 weeks in and BAM there was suddenly a really noticeable difference!

I was noticing a change in the way my clothes fit early on, and a change in how strong I felt before this visual change caught up with me.

Be patient, trust the process, be realistic about how many calories you're eating and burning. Celebrate all the positive changes, they'll all come in time Smile

BrimfulOfBaba · 15/10/2020 12:07

Also remember you're miles ahead of your starting point. You may not be happy at what you see right now but the you from before you started would be so delighted at the changes you've made.

mamaatthegym · 15/10/2020 16:12

Thank you @BrimfulOfBabaBrimful that’s a really positive way of looking at it! That’s true 1 month ago I’d never have thought I’d be going to the gym every day and eating veggies with every meal Grin so I’m further ahead than the old me.

Looks like I might have a few more weeks to go before I see anything noticeable.

Also I love Kayla Itsines!

Are you doing calorie controlled diet? I need to do this.

Newgirls · 15/10/2020 16:14

Have you measured yourself? You might see results then more clearly.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 15/10/2020 16:24

In 2 months you will feel it, in 4 months you will see it, in 6 months you will hear it.

Obviously changes a bit depending on your starting points etc, but I found this true in general.

mamaatthegym · 15/10/2020 19:56

@Birdtwitcher yes first time I’ve ever calorie counted - using the my fitness pal app which gave me an estimate of 1200 calories a day to lose the 2 stone I want to lose in the time frame I put in (which I think was 6 months?)

@Newgirls I actually haven’t, and I don’t have scales in the house yet. I’ve thought about taking ‘before’ pictures but I really honestly can’t stand the sight of myself I don’t even want to take a picture Sad I might just have to suck it up and do it!

@SchrodingersImmigrant that’s interesting I remember reading something like that before. Looks like I have a way to go. Should probably stop obsessing really and just enjoy the process.

Absolutely do. It's really good feeling when you start realising the little changes. And gosh you can absolutely feel them before 2 months, but be realistic. You can't expect body change in 2 weeks really (unless some super extreme diet and workout which would probably be really unhealthy), but in a bit you will start feeling it properly.

Don't forget about the outside layers. Moisturise properly, bit of a massage when you do it so your skin can keep up with any body changes well. Plus it's nice😁

I'm two months plus down the line to a massive life changing shake up.

Just over two months ago -I was 2 stone and 10 pounds heavier. I could not run for more than 1 minute and even then I thought I would die.

Just over 8 weeks later -yes I'm nearly 3 stone lighter and I run 30 minutes and over 5K every other day -rain or shine. And it is still coming off.

I feel it now -massively. I have 2 stone more to go.

At work on the way into the office -there is "food table" full of cakes, chocolates, doughnuts etc -free for us all. In a previous life, I would have grabbed a tea, 2-3 doughnuts -come back at break for some more. Eaten at least one cooked meal at work -and had at least one dessert and then grabbed some cake before going home and then home to a takeaway etc. My excuses in my head -I have a stressful job, I deserve it, it's free. it's yummy etc..........

I have dropped THREE dress sizes. Even now, people are only just stopping me and going "Wow, you've lost weight" etc but I had 5 stone to lose -I was fat. I was tired. I was not me.

I starting to see it -but I'm still flabby -but the biggest difference is a 30 minute run doesn't phase me -trainers on and I go - I kid you not the first time I ran 60 seconds -bright red face, couldn't breathe, wanted to die -cried -then walked and thought I can't run again -etc.

But myself and my 3 friends -we did it -encouraging each other.

@MsKeats that’s such an inspiring story thank you for sharing! And massive well done to you, you’ve achieved an amazing result so far. I’m already feeling stronger and more confident in the gym and moving up to bigger weights etc so I know something in there is working! Looking forward to seeing results soon.

Oh sorry I wasn’t clear. I meant measure your arms, waist, legs etc

It is less weird than a photo and you might be amazed at where the weight goes from!

mamaatthegym · 16/10/2020 10:31

@Newgirls that seems less daunting, I have a tape measure so I’ll do that! Thanks for the tip!

I recommend sewing measure. I use that one. You can get them super cheap nearly everywhere
