I'd like to lose weight. DD and DS would like to mainly eat oven chips. We like to eat together.

How do you go about eating healthy meals together without losing your mind?

Give yourself fewer chips and more veg/salad.
Eat sensibly the rest of the day.

Make healthy meals and Chuck a bowl of chips on the table for them

Do intermittent fasting and have your eating window to include family dinner time.

Also don't let them eat mainly oven chips Grin We eat too many chips but I've trained the children to make wedges from potatoes Grin (we leave the skin on so its just washing, chopping and rolling in salted oil) so we only have oven chips when very tight for time, and the kids no longer like them as much as home made.

Thanks. They don't only eat oven chips Grin but they do only like trad carby things like sausage and mash etc. It's hard to balance it all!

DemolitionBarbie you don't have to do liw carb. Potatoes are a fantastic food in fact. Its really refined, processed carbs that are the problem - unless you know for a fact you're insulin resistent there's no reason to cut out unrefined, complex, carbs to lose weight.

Another vote for intermittent fasting and eat jn your 'window' with your family. Also, as someone said, food you don't want placed in the middle.

Echoing what others have said, bulk up your plate with salad/veg and just have a smaller portion of chips. Most guidelines advise half your plate should be veg, which helps you feel fuller anyway :)

I replace potato mash with carrot/swede mash (or a 50/50 mix for cottage pie)
Cauliflower rice for me whilst family have normal rice
I also use weight watcher recipes quite a bit now as lots of their recipes are quite family friendly
I have a spiralizer which I use to swap out spaghetti and noodles in dishes for me
Vegan or chicken sausages for me (heck ones are good - whole family like them) and normal sausages for others
