Creating a lifestyle change

Anyone else come to the conclusion that what you need is to say goodbye to your current lifestyle forever, rather than embarking on 'diets' with a magical end point where you can go back to normal?

I want to lose about 1.5 stones to be at my 'happy weight' and this time, I want to stay there. I've realised this means there won't be an 'end'. I'll never be able to go back to eating the way I used to and sitting on my arse as much as I did, not if I want to be slim and healthy (diabetes and heart disease runs rampant in my family).

I'm wondering if anyone else reading this has made small (or big) changes to work towards a completely new lifestyle. What did you change? How helpful was it?

I am trying to be more religious about getting at least 10,000 steps in a day, planning and prepping my meals, and having more days in the week at a calorie deficit than not (I use a Fitbit and MyFitnessPal to measure this).

So far I have lost half a stone since lockdown started but more importantly, my attitude to self-care has totally changed. As an example, whenever my partner went on a fishing trip, I'd use the alone time at home to get a takeaway, eat a multipack of crisps (I know!) and watch Netflix in bed. Now, I see it as a chance to workout at home around my own schedule.

Really keen for more tips to keep me in this headspace!

Well done - you're doing really well. And you're quite right, it is that attitude which will get you where you want to be.

I think it's also a matter of creating new habits to replace the old, for example, if a hard day at work means you 'deserve' a treat, replace the old treat of a big slab of cheesecake with the new treat of a bubble bath, rather than just telling yourself you can't have a treat any more.

Thank you @FlamedToACrisp!

Differentiating between treats and indulgences has been really helpful so far. I still eat takeaways etc but only when I feel like I can actually enjoy them. At the moment, I have my wedding in June as a goal to work towards, so I'll be a bit stricter but after that, it'll be a permanent lifestyle change.
