Is it rude?

Is it rude to ask someone how much weight they've lost and how much did you weigh?

I've lost 44lbs (39lbs to go) and I get really uncomfortable when people ask how much I've lost. It's because I'm embarrassed of how much I used to weigh.

This isn't close family or friends (even if it was I still think I'd be uncomfortable).

I'm lucky that it hasn't happened often (because I can't see anyone due to a local lockdown) but the two people I have seen (one colleague and another acquaintance/ friend).

I just can't imagine asking someone that, but I'm unsure if I'm overreacting?

I should add (before anyone jumps in). I bumped into both of these people in ASDA.

Grin I just had something similar when going into an office for the first time in months, having lost a similar amount.

I am trying to see it s a compliment but, in reality, it was really embrassing to have the question called out across the office. I just grinned and said I hadn't really been keeping track and wasn't focussing on the scale and then made a sharp exit.

I really do hate it, though - and also think 'what if I had not been trying to lose weight intentionally and have been ill instead?'

I just think that people mean well but are often very nosey and very clumsy, which is a bad combination.

I think you're right @WobbleWhenIRun

I'm going to use "oh I haven't been keeping track" if anyone asks again.

I just sort of mumbled "oh just a bit" and skirted over the 'how much did you weigh' question. But she kept persisting.. I'll be more prepared for the future!

Congratulations on your weigh-loss!
