How to not feel hungry

UnaMujer · 21/09/2020 09:27

So I’m trying really hard to lose weight but I’m just so hungry.

I’ve tried upping my protein but I’m not sure if I’m still eating to many carbs.

I get particularly hungry in the evening.

Does anyone have any advice?!

Saxenda. Ask your doctor.

pyxi · 21/09/2020 10:39

I find drinking lots of water definitely helps. The downside though is the constant weeing! I mean constant. 😁

Make sure you are eating enough protein and fat during the day which will make you feel full up. It's amazing how eating just 8 almonds can plug what feels like an enormous gap!

Also ensure your calorie deficit isn't too low. It should be below your TDEE but not your BMR - have you calculated these?

UnaMujer · 21/09/2020 13:50

@Sairafina how do I calculate that?

That’s all for the advice. I think I do definitely need to eat more fat. I need to get out of the mindset that fat is bad.

The idea that 'fat makes you fat' is propaganda by the sugar industry!
My diet is usually made up of 50% carbs, 25% protein and 25% fat which leaves me feeling satiated. I should add I'm 34 weeks pregnant at the moment so not beating myself up over the odd brownie or 5 😂

You can calculate TDEE here
tdeecalculator.net/

and BMR here
www.calculator.net/bmr-calculator.html

My TDEE 2100cals is and my BMR is 1,376cals so in my pre-pregnancy times that gave me a lot of wiggle room

A little idea for an evening snack that'll take you ages to eat: mix yoghurt with Options flavoured hot chocolate powder and freeze in ice cube trays. Genius!

ppeatfruit · 21/09/2020 14:30

Eat a proper nourishing meal when you ARE hungry, (no diet foods) BUT eat slowly and chew the food, really tasting it, then stop when you're full. Also sit down at the table to eat, not in front of a screen (mindful eating really worked for me). The book and DVDs etc. are called I Can Make You Thin by Paul Mackenna very good for common sense eating and accepting your self as you are before losing the weight.

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/09/2020 14:32

The most full I felt is when I was eating high protein, moderate fat, low/zero carb.

ppeatfruit · 21/09/2020 14:43

I agree with low carb. but a lot of people can't cope with high protein diets, we are all different of course, and it made me ill. The carbs are ok as long as they are NOT wheat, and not too many, they should be whole grain rice/pasta, some pure spelt or rye bread (whichever agrees with the eater).

ppeatfruit · 21/09/2020 14:47

Una eating fresh organic fruit on an empty stomach, works brilliantly, as long as you leave few hours between it and the next meal and cut back on normal sugar and sweeteners.

My skin and eyes look lovely when I've been doing the above. !

ppeatfruit · 21/09/2020 14:50

So eating fruit in the evening is a good way of filling up, and it doesn't put on weight as long as it's a few hours since your last meal.

Loseastonein21years · 21/09/2020 17:54

How much are you eating, OP? If you’re eating too little it could explain your hunger. You don’t need to starve to lose weight. Also, please don’t take Saxenda. It involves injecting an appetite suppressant into your stomach to stop you feeling hungry and has quite bad side effects, like cancer risks. It’s no better than diet pills imho and from the threads on here, doesn’t even result in a lot of weight loss, despite its price. Not to be mean to her but Gemma Collins from Towie has been on it for many months and I think we can all see the lack of success there.

ppeatfruit · 22/09/2020 10:20

You don't need to starve to lose weight Exactly Loose The problem being it can lead to putting ON weight; dh does this and he gets sooo hungry and grumpy, he'll eat rubbishy food, too much of it and very quickly, it is usually in the latish evening. (having eaten very little in the day maybe a banana and or some sweets fgs.).

He never loses weight when doing the above, the opposite in fact!

brightspice · 22/09/2020 12:35

There's a huge difference between physical and emotional hunger (the former starts in the body, the latter starts in the mind). The key is to learn to distinguish between the two and plan ahead for when emotional hunger strikes. I just posted a podcast on ways to manage physical vs. emotional hunger a couple of days ago. Not sure if I'm allowed to post the link here (?)

happylittlechick · 22/09/2020 12:39

When you're hungry drink a glass of water. Wait 20minutes. If you're still hungry have something small. I also fine cups of tea fill me up.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/09/2020 17:43

There is hunger and there si hunger.
Feeling hungry before meals is absolutely normal. Feeling hungry after, isn't.

When i started I felt starving in the evenings, but it disappeared after couple of weeks. I even went to bed early few times. It was really just because my body was used to double the amount of food AND second dinner thing...

Eat wholesome food. It will satisfy you better

ppeatfruit · 23/09/2020 09:51

Yes Schroding When I occasionally eat late I strangely feel hungrier in the morning! As you say our bodies get used certain amounts of food.

it's easy enough to change it.
