Hi you all sound fantastic. I am after lots of advice. I am 5 stone overweisht and an amputee so really need to lose weight.

My problem is also that I am slightly depressed and so use food as my buddy.

I am looking into all diets, I have tried all the diets and clubs many times but never tried cambridge diet,

How do I get on it? Is slimfast any good

Thanks

Emmax

hi 1legmummy

i cant speak from much experience of slimfast but i have lost 2.5 stone on cambridge, took about 10 weeks and is the best diet i have ever done.

you need to go to their website www.cambridge-diet.com i think! and find a councellor near you who will see you weekly or fortnightly to wiegh and give you your food packs

but, i have tried othger diets over the years and always cheated or gave up, with cambridge it was all or nothing as its not exactl;y a pleasant thing to have to do 0 giving up food completly - so i would say that you have to be totally committed to losing the wieght otherwise you may not atick to it.

My faves were the banana and choc carton shakes, breilliant for taking out and about.

It dpoes work and i have maintained for 2 months now, need to lose about another 10lbs but thats proving harder but have not put on any since retruning to normal food

I think in order to successfully lose weight you need to figure out how you got overweight in the first place ad then find a programme that can address this. If you are overweight because you have food issues - over eating, bingeing etc then something like LighterLife, Cambridge Diet are your best bet cause they come with counselling. However they can be pricey. Slim fast has the same sort of shakes but without the support of counselling to address why you are over eating. They all work on the basis of giving up food completely to re focus you. If you have lost sight of portion control or son't fancy going without food then clubs can be useful cause they have the support - I found slimming world to be more encouraging but enjoyed the Weight Watchers programme more. I lost 7 stone on WW but gave when I tried slimming world. I did not like the shakes etc on Slimfast. Once you find something that suits your lifestyle it will be a lot easier to stick to.

Oh yeah, I have also tried Atkins, I lost weight but found it difficult to stick to cause there were some things I could not go without. A friend of mine is successfully following a low carb diet for steady weight loss and she is finding this alot easier than full Atkins.

oh and on LL or CD you can expect to lose a stone a month at least, on slimfast you do not completly give up food and eat around 1200 calories a day - so would probably lose around 2 lbs a week

also slimfast shakes are not the same as CD or LL ones, they have more calories and are quite carby which leaves you hungry (hence why you eat normal food as well) whereas CD and LL are high protein low carb drinks/bars etc which put your body into letosis and so you dont feel hungry, although i must admit the cravings never completely went away but the massive wieght loss is what kept me going, knowing that every couple of weeks i was seeing a change in dress size was motivation enough!

I am now doing wieghtwatchers no count and crossing fingers that it will help me shift the last little bit along with going to the gym 3 times a week

My SIL is a councellor for lighter life and she swears that the councelling they give is worth every penny but the LL is £66 a week whereas CD is around £33 but without such intensive councelling.

there is a new thing called wieght matters which is more or less the same as CD and LL where you ca order your shakes online and have telephone chat with a councellor so muight be an option if you dont want to trek to a councellor for CD or sit through a 2 hour group session for LL - it is priced somwhere in the middle £49 a week but essentially the same diet i think
