I’m starting tomorrow. Goal is to lose 10lb ASAP! Please join me! I’m not going to put my starting weight but I’m thinking I’ll weigh every 3 days to keep motivated and just write down loss/gain. Hopefully will be loss!

First 4/5 days are the worst. If you are heavy 10lbs could take week but remember that first week is mainly water weight.

Headache and feeling cold is normal.

Good luck.

Crackers6642 · 09/08/2020 22:41

Thank you @Trashtara x

Sorry, I realise I sound really negative - I'm not. I think VLCD can be great things. But they are hard, and the weight loss you get is hard to maintain, but I think that is true of any diet (I should know, I've done enough of them).

I've been using meal replacements for just over a week. It's been tough but I wanted something for a few weeks to kick start some weight loss. 7lbs down so feeling pleased.
How are you getting on?

Crackers6642 · 11/08/2020 17:10

@MrsMime amazing weight loss in one week! Well done.

It didn’t go well to be honest but I’m back on today, so day 1 again today. I’m determined to do this. How did you stop yourself snacking between Morning and afternoon shakes?

I have my morning one about 11 so waiting for the lunchtime one around 2 isn't too bad. The worst bit is the afternoon but I've been having salad and occasionally some cracker breads or slim fast porridge when I've needed something to chew! Good luck x

Trashtara · 11/08/2020 18:08

Yeah I found leaving it as late as possible for my first one the best way.

Crackers6642 · 11/08/2020 18:14

I might try leaving it later tomorrow then. Had morning one at 9:30 today.

I'm finding days when a meal replacement shake won't do it and I'm starving, I have a couple of spoonfuls of cottage cheese alongside to make it a slighter fuller and more filling meal or for example will have 2 Weetabix with skimmed milk instead which is very low calorie with a quarter chopped banana. By swapping and changing but keeping within the same sort of calorie intake as a meal replacement it still works fine, those few extra calories if any keep me full rather than feeling starving hungry and ending up eating lots for my main meal or needing to l pick throughout the day.

frenchonion · 12/08/2020 07:44

Please don't do this to yourselves! It's a fucking awful way to treat your body. You'd never get up one day and decide to fill your car with bad fuel for a week. I swear, if you start thinking about how amazing your body is, all the incredible systems and organs that tick over every day, look at the children that it has grown and birthed, the way it carries you through life and the things it allows you to achieve, drinking processed unsatisfying bloody shakes day in day out is not the way to respect yourselves. The answer to weight loss is love. Really it is. If we all start loving ourselves, and thinking about food as a way of loving and nourishing our amazing machines, excess weight will fall off. Get up today and decide to fuel your machine with the best, nicest, tastiest natural whole foods that you can. Eat every meal slowly and mindfully. Taste everything consciously and think about how much better it will allow your body to work. Do some stretching and exercise (yoga is perfect! Pretty much anyone practice it - even if you're chronically ill or disabled). Breathe deep and appreciate how amazing you are. List 3 things you're grateful for. Take a little time to treat your body well eg give yourself a little foot massage before you put your shoes on. Give yourself time to digest your food between meals. Some movement and a herbal tea can help the process of digestion. I know I sound absolutely mad but please believe me that it works.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 12/08/2020 08:10

@frenchonion i think you are very fortunate if that works for you

Some of us don't limit naturally. I slowly and mindfully savour every mouthful of the too much food than my body needs!

When I naturally eat (more or less in the way you suggest) i gain about a stone over the course of a year. The weight does not just fall off.

Now I know how to calorie count to loose weight, I did it for a year and lost over 5 stone (most of it permenantly). But weighing every damn thing is tedious cooking seperate portions is a pain and there's no room for error the closer you are to your maintenance weight.

Oh and I started that weight loss with a month and half of slimfast.

Sometimes i need a complete break from thinking about food. By using the shakes I only have to eat/meticulously measure one meal a day. I dont comfort eat and my stomach size resets. No it's not a permanent fix, but for some of us foodlovers it helps.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 12/08/2020 08:12

Also yoga is very bad indeed for anyone with hypermobility. It is not suitable for all

FrontRowSeat · 12/08/2020 08:18

Which meal replacement programmes would you recommend. I’ve seen Slim Fast and Exante. Any others?

Hazelnutlatteplease · 12/08/2020 08:52

I used/am currently using slimfast purely because it wasn't hugely expensive, is easy to get hold of and didn't have to think too hard about either getting or doing it. No idea on the others.

At some point when i trust myself with food again I'll go back to calorie counting with my fitness pal. Atm im not really finding hard and it's too hot to exercise properly (requiring more calories than slimfast provides) so i haven't got the drive for real food yet.

I'm using Cute. 8lbs down now. Smile
MrsMaryBOOface · 12/08/2020 09:44

I've just started The New You Plan, mainly because they have crisps Grin

I'm doing the switch plan which is more flexible than just meal replacements all day, because I know I'll find it easier to stick to.

I was recommended to do a meal replacement VLCD by a endocrinologist.

miracle34 · 12/08/2020 12:15

Agree with everything Hazelnutlatte said.

I am very kind to my body but my love of food, and all mostly healthy I will add has made me gain almost a stone during lockdown. This is the only way to get my mindset back to where I was . It's really not so easy for everyone to be mindful with their eating all the time.

Noneyerbuisness11234 · 12/08/2020 13:01

If ur using meal replacement shakes and u feel like u need something have protein because the benefit of it if u go into ketosis which then ur body uses stored fat for energy if u have a cheat of carbs or anything with carbohydrates which nearly everything has Ull knock urself out of ketosis which takes 3 days to get into once ur in ketosis Ull not feel as hungry drink water in between ur shakes good luck op I lost 3 stone in 3 months but hard to maintain after

I'd recommend slim and save. It is like exante and cambridge but a lot cheaper and tastes nicer.

I'd avoid slim-fast, it isn't low carb and doesn't put you in ketosis, which makes you hungrier and it is therefore harder to stick to.
