I am 5ft 5, 12 stone 7. I am a complete carb junkie. Pasta is my downfall. I also have quite a sweet tooth at times. I prefer veg to fruit. The only fruit I really like are bananas and strawberries. I can't eat too much fish and shellfish and salmon are a no no. |I am not keen on dairy apart from milk on my cereal in the morning and cheese sauce on my lasagne. I don't like yogurts or anything like that. There isn't a gym anywhere near me. I have got an excersize bike in the back of the shed somewhere and a stepper in the kitchen! i like walking but the dog hates the rain!! i dont really enjoy cooking. I'm crap at it so need to find healthy meals that are quick and also cheap as I am on a tight budget!! I can't really afford to go to any slimming clubs, but have been looking at the ww switch packs on ebay and wondering if they are worth the money? please help me. I am miserable being this weight. I need to try and find a diet that works for me, something i can actually follow as opposed to just trying to eat better in general as I think I am more likely to fail that way

Have a look at www.minimins.com/ theres lots of different forums there detailing all the different diets available and lots of advice. I am biased, I did the cambridge diet and lost 3 stone 8 and am now training to be a counsellor for that diet.
Hope it helps

Hi,

Im doing the cabbage diet at the moment, my sister in law lost 9lbs in a week, its not a very exciting diet, but is diet exciting? its basically a soup and you have a 7 day meal plan of other stuff you can have with it. Just type in the cabbage diet in google and its gives you all you need to know.

Hope this helps xx

i would either do weight watchers or buy the book fat girl slim which gives you loads of delicious recipes and advises on snacks etc. It is very sensible- i lost a stone in 6 weeks and did not feel like i was denying myself.

Cambridge diet in a nutshell
You go to see a counsellor and purchase food packs for the week. These are soups and milkshakes. In week 3 there are chocolate covered bars and water flavourings too. You have those and nothing else except water and black tea/coffee.
It works by putting the body into a mild state of ketosis and therefore encouraging the body to burn the existing fat stores rather than lean tissue.
The cost is around £35 per week, but tbh I would have spent that on food anyway when you count the odd takeaway or bottle of wine etc.
If you are interested, google the Cambridge diet, go to the main website and click on find a counsellor. there should be one local to you.

I'm quite similar to you in that I love my carbs. I would try slimming world which I've just started. I don't feel deprived at all - if anything i'm eating more than I normally would.

Broadly - your fat, sugar and bread intake is cut down. On a green day your meat intake is restricted but you can eat as much pasta , potato, couscous etc as you like. On a red day you can have as much meat as you like but your carbs are cut down. Eggs are a free food whichever day.

You choose which day you fancy following when you get up and stick to that plan all day. You also get 5 to 15 syns per day for chocolate / wine etc

You can join for half price at the moment - so turn up pay £9.50 (£5 to join & £4.50 per meeting), get the books and then come home and do it yourself. I'm looking up all of the points on the website which is password protected but someone generally puts the weekly password up on the slimming world thread here anyway.

I've done weight watchers in the past but get fed up of the weighing and measuring.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Nikki

Hi. Maybe have a look at Rosemary Conley? She doesn't restrict on carbs, although they have to be eaten in moderation etc. What I like about her, is the sensible, no nonsense approach. Try buying her magazine, even if you only buy it once, keep it and dip back into it. Every month they print very inspirational stories and maybe reading about someone like yourself will give you the extra incentive to get you going. Maybe try getting one of her exercise videos or dvds, you could get one second hand or borrow one from a friend. I can really recommend them too, like her diet advice, its straightforward to follow and it works.

I wish you every success.
