Best running leggings that stay up

I know this isn’t strictly a weightloss issue, but I wanted the opinion of people who are not running mad stick insects! I’ve lost 19lbs over the last two months and am ready to start running, but still have about 1.5 - 2 stone to go (So I still have a lot of excess fat around my middle!). I bought some sweaty Betty power leggings in medium, went for a run and they fell down within a few minutes. I’m sure they would be great on a svelt size 8, but I’m climbing down from a 14, and the squishy tummy/hips/back just doesn’t lend itself to leggings staying up (no hip bones available to keep them up! 😂). Any suggestions for what I can try? Desperate to start running but hate having to pull up leggings every few minutes! Although im still losing weight so will need a smaller pair soon (hopefully!), I don’t mind spending money - I deserve a treat after 19lbs, and I suspect I’ll be this weight again in the future so they will hopefully be my “fat leggings!”😂. For now they are my “first day back at the school gate, look how skinny I got over lock down“ leggings. 😂💪

I started running in January at a size 20 and wore Nike Racer tights which were fantastic and stayed up no problem thanks to the drawstring! Which was also a life saver as I dropped size. Am now a 14 and wear M&S crops which also stay up. It's probably as much shape as anything as different bands suit different people so suggest you get something with a draw string!

The make is less important than them having a drawstring waist IMO. I also wear M&S crops. Brands like Sweaty Betty and Lululemon are v expensive and I'm not sure what you get for the extra money.

Sweaty Betty Zero Gravity are great for staying up (I'm climbing down from a size 16 - love that description!)

Oh, fantastic. Thank you. I’ll try them. Ideally I wanted pockets for my phone etc but I guess that just pulls them down as well. I am fairly disappointed in the Sweaty Betties. They did look good, and were comfy so were perfect for school gate, and had back and side pocket, but the falling down was really frustrating and no use for running.

Any recommendations for which type of leggings at M & S? Go Train, Go Move, High Waisted... etc.

I've always found karrimor from sports direct to work well. You want them to be the slightest bit too small, quite snug but not cutting off circulation. You don't wear them for long so it's ok. T K Maxx also have some decent running stuff sometimes.

Well done on your amazing weight loss too. That's fabulous!

Ooh, now I nearly got Zero Gravity, but heard they are very see through, and I want to be able to wear them for shopping, school gate, yoga on the beach (if I ever get round to going!). Don’t like the idea of them feeling too revealing 😄

I've got go move, I think, but they are all pretty much of a muchness. The do have a pocket in the back which I can fit my phone in but my phone is not that large. Agree TK Maxx can also have good deals, but itdepends what is in on the day.

In my experience with running gear it's best to get two pairs of cheaper kit so there's always one clean, and to spend extra money on trainers (and possibly also sports bra.) Shoes are the main thing it is really important not to skimp on.

I am also a size 14/16 and run regularly. I have leggings by Nike and Ron Hill which I have literally had for years - draw string essential though so you can tighten them to fit. Also recently bought a cheap (£10 ish, just from Amazon) waist belt for phone etc as I wanted room to fit a small shopping bag in there so I can pick up a few things on the way home if I need to. It is comfortable and not noticeable under a top. Less fiddly than an arm band, IMO. Congrats on the weight loss.

Nike Sculpt. Nice and high waisted too.

And whichever brand you go for, don't buy them too big. Snug is best.

AnaViaSalamanca · 09/07/2020 09:34

lululemon all the right places. They have got some compression too which is nice.

Littlemisssunshine123 · 09/07/2020 23:36

Thank you. I’m going to order some m&s ones, in a snug fit, and a running belt. And if they don’t work will try the other recommendations. Thank you! Just had a non fasting day (I’m doing the 4:3 diet which is working brilliantly) and feel like I’m waddling after eating the contents of the fridge today. Luckily I’m fasting tomorrow so will undo all today’s badness 😂. Doubt I’ll be breaking the 20lb mark this week though! But once I get leggings that stay up... well, then, the weight will just fall off, won’t it? 😀😂
