Mid afternoon snack

Hi 👋

I'm having some success with a combination of 16:8, 1200-1400 calories a day and medium-low carb (aiming for 100g a day, only fruit and veg). An average day would be:

Breakfast: yogurt and fruit, coffee with skim milk
Lunch: salad with smoked salmon, Avacado, beetroot, spinach etc
Dinner: meat or fish with salad or veg, small potato with butter

I'm crashing mid afternoon about 3pm and only sometimes overcoming the urge to eat my way through the kids snack cupboard 🙈

Has anyone got any suggestions for a snack to have that time of day to pick me up and fill me up? Everything healthy I eat seems to leave me hungrier. I feel like I need carbs at that time, would wholewheat toast be very bad idea?

Thanks!

Hi @withgraceinmyheart
I do 16:8 /18:6 too.
I thought one of the main points of 16:8 is to not have the traditional 3 meals per day?

I usually dont eat till around 1/2pm and then i usually have just a cup of tea and a salad then have dinner at 6pm and if i need a snack i snack on fruit and finish eating at 7pm.

Are you drinking enough water?

Hi sissy,

I do 10-6, so I have breakfast at 10, lunch at 12 and dinner 5ish. I'm losing weight so don't need to eat less. Just too hungry in the afternoon so going to try a light snack then.

I haven't heard that 16:8 meant you had to skip meals completely, although I know some people do.

boiled eggs, greek yoghurt and berries, apple and peanut butter, protein shake (protein powder, 1/2 banana, frozen berries, a bit of milk), cherry tomatoes, carrot or celery slices and hummus

It sounds like you may need to try getting more fat or protein into the snack, perhaps by marginally reducing the size of your other meals to free up the calories if you need to.

I've heard people recommend coffee with double cream as a low carb, high fat snack to fill you up.

Personally (I'm having to eat reasonably low carb like you as I have gestational diabetes) I tend to go for houmous and carrot/celery sticks, a small piece of cheese, sugar free jelly with a splash of double cream, 25g of mixed nuts/seeds, spoonful of peanut butter, berries and double cream.

Thanks Ana good ideas to try,
I'm try some out this week.

Ah Pink I had GD too! Commiserations. I think you're right I need more protein. I'm struggling because I'm allergic to nuts and legumes (some of the protein staples!) so I end up eating a lot of dairy. I've cut most of it out, but maybe I need to reintroduce some to get more protein and fat.

I had 2 slices of seeded bread and butter this afternoon and it filled me up and gave me good energy, and I'm still under by carb goals so that's good!
