Am I being unrealistic trying to achieve this when I am a size 12-14?

I am 5 feet 7 and weigh 10st 6

Lost over a stone since April but want to go further, but do u think it is possible or am I being unrealistic?

"A size 16 may be the average but it isn't attractive."

Attractiveness is subjective - that's a very sweeping statement to make.

Since a healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 24.9, saying a low BMI should be normal is a bit daft. I also doubt you do look 'huge' at a BMI of 21.1, you just feel you do. That's different, and again is perception.

Midrangecolours · 24/06/2020 21:53

Do you want to look like a skeleton

Here we go Hmm

TheTeenageYears · 24/06/2020 21:56

I'm 5'8", size 8 and for most of my adult life (mid 40's) have weighed 8.5 stone. I am very light for my height but completely healthy. Weight and dress size are so dependent on build, everyone is different and i'm a big believer that everyone has a natural size/weight.

Ploughingthrough · 25/06/2020 02:34

I think you'd have to lose about 2 stone which is a lot from your current weight. I am 9 stone 6 at 5'6 and a size 10 trousers and 12 top. I guess it depends on your build but in my opinion you'd have to lose quite a bit yet. Why do you want to be a size 6?

flamingochill · 25/06/2020 02:38

My dd is 5 foot 7 and a size 6. She's very sporty and has ADHD so constantly fidgeting .

AngelzEye · 25/06/2020 03:01

I'm a small UK 6, 5'7" and weigh about 8 stone but it will depend on your frame size, which you can find by measuring your wrist (Google frame size calculator or similar).
I have a very small frame which means I 'fit' into small clothes but look rounder than you might expect without them Hmm.

It's really not about measurements though, just get to a place where you feel happy and confident wherever that is!

Note, I've been this weight for years and my dr has never said anything about it, but at 5'7'' anything under 8 st 6 is considered underweight.

Shedtheload · 25/06/2020 03:30

Normal should be low BMI, under 20 IMO

What a stupid ignorant comment. People have different builds which is why there is a range of healthy weights, which include those who have a larger build. Your comment is just as bad as the skeleton one. Idiotic.

Ploughingthrough · 25/06/2020 03:38

Normal should be low BMI, under 20 IMO

What? If normal was 20 or below then the scientific BMI charts wouldn't go up to 25 would they? Stupid comment.
My BMI is 21 and I think that's normal.

Octopus37 · 25/06/2020 08:45

I managed to get into size 8 trousers when I was 5ft5 and 7st10 and they weren't loose. For me to be a size 6, I would have to weigh about 7st but dont think I've got the bone structure.

pigeon999 · 25/06/2020 08:48

That was pretty much me when I had completely stop eating due to anorexia. I am not sure it is a healthy goal or a sustainable one.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 25/06/2020 08:55

I’m the same height and am a UK size 8, occasionally even a size 6 in some brands that run large. I weigh 125lbs. It depends on your natural shape and frame though, I’ve never dieted to maintain this.

I'm the same. If it motivates you at all, I was 15 stones – and a size 20 – a few years ago. I lost all the weight in my mid to late 40s. I'm 53 now and maintaining it fine.

My before and after pics are attached. There's no reason that you can't do it Smile

Iamnotacerealkiller · 25/06/2020 08:56

Build is important. I'm broad chested and hope and could probably squeeze into a 10 if I was borderline underweight.

NoHardSell · 25/06/2020 08:58

My 13 year old super skinny pre pubescent daughter is a size 6.

Bleepbloopblarp · 25/06/2020 09:01

My dd14 is 5”7”, very slim and even she is an 8-10. I don’t understand why grown women try to starve themselves into a certain dress size. I doubt it would be a good look.

TryAnotherNickname · 25/06/2020 09:05

It depends on whose size 6! I am 5’3 and a 6 in whistles / M&S and other high st vanity sizers. I am an 8 or 10 in real terms/ more expensive brands. I do also have extremely small wrists / ankles / shoulders - my frame is small so at 7st 11 I’m not particularly “thin” especially on the legs. Aiming for a dress size is pretty pointless because of this.

pigeon999 · 25/06/2020 09:17

You also need to be aware of what it will do to your face, I looked big nosed suddenly and gaunt as hell. Not unlike a drug addict. Bear in mind not everyone looks more attractive when they are thin, and if you are older it could give you a look of a collapsed face - because of the saggy jowl affect.

Midrangecolours · 25/06/2020 09:18

Well I'm in my mid 50's and size 6 - go figure as they would say in the States

PhoneLock · 25/06/2020 09:35

So? Many grown women are too. There wouldn't be such a range of grown-up size 6 clothes available if there wasn't.

NotAnotherUserNumber · 25/06/2020 09:47

This will depend a lot on your body shape, build and the type of clothes you are buying.

At your height I doubt you can be a size 6 everywhere (all shops and all clothes items) without looking very thin. I think you could look healthily slim but have some size 6 items in your wardrobe, depending on your shape. For example if you are naturally hourglass shaped then a size 6 dress with a full skirt may fit you at a healthy size.

For comparison, I am 5ft 4.5 inches and typically around 8.5 stone (although I am a little over 9 at the moment). I have some size 6 dresses in my wardrobe, alongside mainly size 8 and a couple of size 10 and 12 items. I find clothes sizes vary a lot between different brands and I will always tend to need a larger size in tight trousers than I do in a dress or skirt.

Sizes are weird and vary a lot. For example, I generally wear US size 4 jeans, but all my US sized dresses are size 2 or size 0. At a UK shop targeted at teenagers I may be a 10, but at a shop targeted for older women I am usually whatever the smallest size they make is, unless it is something tight in the hips where I will size up.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 25/06/2020 10:02

Do you want to look like a skeleton

@CottonSock Well, do you think that I do? Hmm

PurpleDaisies · 25/06/2020 10:06

Why are you targeting that size? It’s smaller than pretty much everyone else. Is that your goal?

Davodia · 25/06/2020 10:24

I’m the same height and would regard 10st 6 as quite heavy. Pre-baby I used to hover between 9-10st, if I reached 10st I went on a diet. At 9st I was a size 10. I’d have to be skeletal to get down to a size 6.

NoHardSell · 25/06/2020 10:41

At that height? A few maybe, but not many. Apart from anything else, it's the boobs that get in the way once they grow

Good point about shop sizes though. My dd is shopping teens style shops

Chesneyhawkes1 · 25/06/2020 10:48

I'm 5ft 3" and have some size 6 from River Island. Not fitting into them at the minute mind.

But when I do I don't look like a skeleton 🙄
