I’ve lost 2.2kg so far sticking to 1200 calories a day, give or take a few.

I’ve tried every single diet under the sun. I always give up. This time seems to be going ok, because I allow myself the chocolate bar or whatever if it fits into my daily calories.

JabbaTheHuut · 07/06/2020 07:46

Thank you for responding @spaghettios do you use MyFitnessPal to track calories? Ive downloaded that and will make a start today. Ive got to do something to reign myself in.

I recommend you read 'Delay Don't Deny' by Gin Stevens or her next book due out soon on Amazon. About intermittent fasting.

Twilbury · 07/06/2020 08:08

I am not much help tactic wise as I am starting my weight loss journey (again) today.
But we could keep each other company ?

I am going to stick to 16:8 and follow weight watchers.

Read the recent threads on 16/8 and be inspired! There's one called something like "16/8 isn't like any other shitty diet I've tried before".

rottiemum88 · 07/06/2020 08:11

Frozen grapes! They're a great low calorie snack in place of sweets/chocolate and count towards your 5 a day Grin I've done MFP before but had to become quite religious about the tracking or else I'd always fall off the wagon after a few days

SallyWD · 07/06/2020 08:12

Sorry the thread starts "16/8 does not feel like another shitty diet"

I would say, as a chronic yoyo dieter, it is more about getting your head in the right place than finding the right diet or following a set of rules. The only thing that has ever worked for me is the NoS diet, its not a diet just a very simple set of rules and gradually helps you adjust your relationship with food.

Thanks everyone for responding! Ive just been reading the 16:8 thread and im going to give that a go alongside calorie counting of max 1669 (lowest recommended calories to have daily according to the NHS BMI website for my weight). I do prefer to skip breakfast when i can, i find i almost have to force myself to eat it anyway when i dont fancy it. I am thinking of doing a 12-8pm routine.

My issues around food are that i just dont cook, never been into cooking. I dont think about food until i need to eat but thats another downfall as i reach for easy convenience foods instead of healthy. Luckily my husband cooks and is really good at cooking but more often than not we wait for the kids to be in bed and it can be 9-930pm by the time we eat, which is too late for me and ive hit the snack cupboard in between meals! Ive also realised my snacking from boredom/just because, is out of control seriously im talking around 1000 calories extra in snacks throughout the day 😑

Ive just bought a load of new clothes in a size 18 and im disgusted with myself. I have to do this 💪

16:8 the easiest plan I've ever followed and makes so much sense in comparison to the eat less move more spiel we've heard for years.

actiongirl1978 · 07/06/2020 08:55

I've just lost 4 pounds in 10 days. I stuck to 1200 cals a day, walked 16000 steps or more a day and did a PMA fitness HIIT each morning.

I'm quite fit so this wasn't new exercise for me but the reduction in cals was hard as I usually eat all my activity calories.

As a pp said you really do have to want it. I needed to wear a dress today when meeting the in laws at a socially distanced picnic. I still have 4lbs to get to normal weight so will carry on with my 1200 cals then go up to 1900 maintenance.

I cut the alcohol and bread as they are just too high in cals.

I do eat 2 or even sometimes 3 bars of moser Roth (aldi) 85% chocolate every day within my calorie limit I couldnt do this without some treats.

I mainly eat veg which I love and salad which I love and grow in the garden.

I tend to have one piece of meat or fish a day plus I eat loads and loads of Total 0% yoghurt.

It's also easier for me as we dont eat family meals as no-one likes the same thing so I tend to cook chicken and then it gets served 4 different ways...!

If your head is in the game you will succeed with this.

Good luck op

I find being accountable in choices and calories helps me.
Stick to 1500 max, works for me at 58

16:8 (or longer fasts) make sense when you hear the science on insulin. I found out today that overweight/obese people have a higher basic level of insulin. So far storage is ramped up in people who are already overweight. A slim person can eat the same thing as an overweight person but the signals and process to store it as fat are supercharged for an overweight person. Losing weight, fasting and exercise bring that base insulin level down.
I'm not a scientist, so please check it out in Dr Jason Fung's research if interested.

I've just invested and made the switch to Nutracheck (29.99 a year or 3.99 a month)- so much better than MFP which I have used for 10 years as I find it a more helpful tool to lose weight and to understand. It is uk based and has helpful pictures of products as you search for them. Not so good if you are not uk! I have lost 5lb in two weeks sticking to 1200 calories a day (ish) over the week. It's free for a week and no card retails needed until you decide to sign up. ( wish I was on commission)

I also agree that 16:8 helps. Just in a basic level, I feel it gives my body time to process the energy before overloading it.

I am taking the approach of a 12 week bootcamp to lose 2 stone. I have 4 to lose (started at nearly 15). I am now in week three. I will then review and think what I do next. I dont think 1200 is sustainable long term, but I think I will always have to calorie count in some way.
