How much is safe to loose?

I'm very overweight - in the 18st range. These last 2 weeks I've been using MFP to loose weight. I have cut down what I eat etc. Anyway since the 1st may just through limiting my intake I have lost 7.4lbs. Is this ok?
I'm now reading conflicting things saying if you loose it too quickly you can be in trouble etc.

Can anyone offer any advice?

according to what I have read on the NHS website, the recommended 'safe' way to lose weight is 0.5kg to 1kg (1lb to 2lb) each week. Have you tried the NHS diet plan? link here. it gives exercises to do along side the diet. Well done on your weightloss!

Well done on the weight loss!

When you first start to lose you may find you lose a lot all at once (especially if you have more to lose).

You’ll probably find after a few weeks it evens out and you’ll lose less per week and settle into more of a steady loss, which is normal.

If you continue losing loads every week even after the first month or so; maybe have a look at what you’re eating to make sure you’re getting enough nutrition.

At the moment all I've done is cut back on snacks etc. I read that I'm more likely to loose weight quickly in the first couple of weeks then slow down.

I'm relatively active as have a DS I'm running around after him etc. I'm eating about 1400 calories a day at the moment. So maybe it is just the drop in calories etc.

Just worried investors doing something wrong I guess

2lbs a week would be safe

Wilmalovescake · 12/05/2020 13:06

You’re fine. You always lose more at first.
It’ll slow down naturally.

I do slimming world and an initial large weight loss for the first couple of weeks is not unusual.

Some people continue to lose quite a lot of weight quite quickly, whilst others slow down. Ultimately based on calories in an exercise taken.

The only bit to watch out for is occasionally people who loose very rapidly can get gall stones. I don't think it's common but it is a known risk.

I've know people lose 3 or 4 stone quite quickly without negative effects.

I lost a lot slower (middle aged and lazy Smile) and I think that has helped me to keep it off as it gave me longer to get my head around eating a different way for ever

I was nearly 17 stone and have lost 16 lbs in 8 weeks, so 2lbs a week on average. MFP has my calories at 1600 a day so a bit higher than yours. If you are worried you could probably stand to up your calories a bit.

BigKnickers87 · 13/05/2020 12:28

Totally normal when you start. I’m sure I heard Chloe Madeley say recently that whether or not it’s too much depends on how you do it. If you’re being sensible and healthy and losing weight quickly that’s fine, if you’re starving yourself and exercising to extremes and losing weight quickly then it’s not!

babydogandi · 13/05/2020 14:00

Thanks all.

I wasn't worried as such just my DP mentioned it and I panicked!

I'm happy with how it's going and I'm not starving myself so all is good there.

Thank you for all the advice. And well done on the weight losses!

It's fine. So long as you realise it will slow then just enjoy the kick start.
