Is it a myth that you can eat too little?

I don't think I am eating too little.... but is there truth in the 'body goes into starvation mode' thing?

Im two weeks in of eating between 1000 - 1200 cals per day and lots 3.5lb first week but only 1pound this week. I'm a bit disappointed. Could I need to eat more? This doesn't makes sense to me but I have heard it said.

A typical day is banana at midday

Lunch is either Homemade veg soup and a couple of breadsticks, or salad with salmon or hard boiled eggs, or jacket potato & beans or sometimes just porridge (weighed out) aiming for around 300-400 cals

Dinner has been either salad, jacket potato or homemade veggie curry or chilli. I've been counting pretty accurately - measuring rice & pasta etc (usually around 400-500 cals)

Snacks of maybe an apple, handful of nuts if i can spare, satsumas or carrot sticks. Ive has a small amount of dark choc if I can spare in my calculations. I really do think I'm being accurate.

I eat between 12 - 8, going 16 hours with out food (but still have tea & coffee with semi skimmed in the mornings until midday)

I'm 5'8 and now 10st 11, hoping to get to 10st. I'm not into exercise but have been on a couple of runs and done some yoga and Joe wicks once!. Plus active with young children.

Am I just expecting too much?

Do you really think that a 1000 calorie day diet of KitKats would produce the same weight loss as 1000 calories of fresh fruit and vegetables?

Yes, it absolutely will. You wouldn't feel great but you would lose weight just the same.

Pineappleunder I don't know how I'd cope without tea & coffee to get me through until midday 😩 I do sometimes reduce my eating window by not eating past 7pm, and can sometimes delay eating until 1pm but it's hard.

Don't think I could manage it without hot drinks.... I usually have 3 with milk so probably adding 25ml in total.

I've weighed this morning and I'm 10st 9.5 so I've lost 6.5 lbs in 2 weeks. I'm happy with that. When I posted this op it seemed nothing was coming off this second week so glad it's balanced by today (my weigh day!)

Could you grow to like peppermint tea?

I'm in a similar situation.

I'm using MyFitnessPal and eating between 1000-1300 calories a day. As I'm furloughed, I'm walking 1-2 hours a day.

I'm putting on weight!

My ideal weight would be 91/2. I'm happy around 10. I'm currently 11!

Please help!

I'm also doing intermittent fasting with a coffee first thing. Interesting re milk. I'll try black coffee until midday from now on!

So many myths around weight loss.

Firstly, it’s not the same in real life as it is in a lab. 2000 calories of Kit Kat’s clearly have the same calories as 2000 calories of vegetables (the clues in the name, like the old feather and lead joke) but in the real world eating the Kit Kat’s would mean:

You’d likely be hungry sooner, so likely would eat more

You’d have less energy, therefore move less, therefore burn less calories

Your insulin levels would spike, encouraging the body to gain and keep fat

Also a body is nothing like a car! One is a simple mechanical engine, the other is a literal living being. Suddenly crash cutting OR adding thousands of calories to a persons diet will have a different effect on a person, more so than running a petrol tank for years on 1/3 full then suddenly running it 3/4 full!
