Obesity and miscarriage

I have recently had 2 miscarriages in a row after one healthy pregnancy (and we have always gotten pregnant in one attempt). DS is 2.5 years old now. These miscarriages have obviously caused a lot of heartaches and I have been questioning everything.

I am now 35 years old but also 15kgs heavier than when I first got pregnant. I used to smoke and socially drink a lot before the first baby. Haven’t smoked in 3.5 years and drinking has been limited to 1 glass of wine a week. Although I have really been thinking is it my weight that’s causing these marriages. My BMI is now 27.8 and every day I am making some efforts to get back on track.

I understand the science that most of the miscarriages happen due to chromosomal abnormalities but I am wondering how much part weight has to play in it? Has anyone faced/ wondered the same? I just want to have a chat about this, as this journey can feel quite lonely.

I’m so sorry for your losses! That is a terrible experience let alone twice.
You are overweight not obese! From what I read and was told your bmi at this level wouldn’t be considered high risk at all so please don’t go blaming yourself, ever! Sometimes life’s a bit shit and unfair.
Obviously if you are in the right mindset eating better and exercising more is great And certainly wouldn’t hurt in trying to be physically prepared for another pregnancy but your weight wouldn’t be the reason. Be kind to yourself x

I'm so sorry for your losses but your weight is not a factor in your miscarriages. I am obese & have suffered 3 miscarriages (all different), and have 2 healthy children. Sadly I think it's just luck, (although that's too reductive). I was 17 stone when I had dc1 & not much less when I had dc2. Don't stress too much about your weight - you are probably below average. Try to relax & go easy on yourself - I know it's easier said than done
