Intermittent Fasting - have I got this right?

As I continue to be wfh for the foreseeable and finding any exercise an ordeal. We live in a busy London suburb and even a stroll is constant walking in the road and changing parents and I’m just sick of it. I’ve done a couple of at home classes but the working week is busy and I need to change my diet as I just graze and have been eating whatever I fancy for the last 6 weeks. My scales have broken but I was on the borderline healthy/overweight beforehand with BMI 25 and I can tell from my clothes I’ve put on weight.

I recall reading about Intermittent Fasting. If I only allow myself to eat between midday and 8 and ‘fast’ the rest of the time, are there rules other than that? Obviously it’s not a continuous pig out during the 8 hours but would lunch, a snack, dinner be ok? I don’t Particularly want to calorie count. And between 8pm and the following midday, is it water only? A morning coffee permitted?

Any words of advice or experiences welcome.

Coffee is permitted if black
Your 8 to 12 fast should’ve calorie free , water would be better but it would be ok
There are some great threads on here , re fasting , or fast 800

it's very flexible.
I'm doing 16/8 atm after doing 5/2 for a couple of years.

I eat 2 meals a day (lunch and dinner) and din't have snacks. I still have treats/sweets/cake but as part of the meal.

I do have a cuppa with (oat) milk first thing in the morning though as black tea or coffe makes me feel queasy on an empty stomach.

there are some great threads here on intermittend fasting.

my parents do it differently - they are having a late breakfast at 10 and then tea around 4.

you need to see what works for you.

Thank you! I get that it’s all around working around your day. I’m finding I’m eating a hearty breakfast whereas in normal life I’d just have an Americano en route to work. Cutting it out shouldn’t be an ordeal. Also noted re snacks. But I’m thinking midday lunch, 4pm small snack, 7pm dinner. That will certainly work for as long as we’re in lockdown. Will also help to temper the alcohol consumption if I’m nil by mouth (aside from water) after 8. It’s so easy to finish the bottle opened over dinner and then I get peckish for chocolate. Cutting that out, I hope, will make a big difference.

I just want to feel good, lean and healthy when I return to work ‘in person’ rather than the blob I feel now!
