Join me losing my menopause weight gain

I've done SW and lost 2.5 stone. And then put it all back on again. It taught me good practice but I dont want to go back and spend more money learning the same things.
I'm 54 and 13st 4lbs.
I want to lose about 3 stone.

My down fall is toast and butter and cheese.
Well, anything with butter actually.
SW taught me that I need more veg.
My menopausal brain just wants cheese on toast .
I'll eat sugary things until I get a migraine.
I still try to eat the same sized meals I did when I was a young(er) woman but I know I need to eat smaller portions.
I dont eat much in the way of sweets or crisps or fizzy drinks. Dont really drink alchohol.
My main meals are pretty good but its the incidentals and snacks.I find it hard not to have 3 biscuits with a cup of tea/coffee.

Dont want to go to the gym or run. (I might run when I've lost a stone)
I will walk the dog and hike once or twice a month.

I dont want to lose lots of weight quickly; just want to change habits and lose gradually.
Today I've had porridge (about 50g) with too much sugar and a couple cups of coffee (no biscuits but only cos I havent got any).
Havent been shopping so lunch really will be cheese on toast and dinner will be defrosted beef hot pot with some broccolli.
Will try to avoid snacking today and go shopping tomorrow for veg and protein.

So. Anyone else in my boat?

I’m in the boat, frantically looking for the paddle.
Post menopausal, mid fifties.
Lost 5 stone with SW about 7 years ago. Life got very stressful and it’s all piled on. SW made a lot of sense to me and we still use some of the recipes. I felt like I was hungry , though, which put me off eating that way again.Having tried other ways of eating , I think the feeling of hunger stemmed from stress at weighing in (don’t want to do that again) or peri-menopause.
I would like to try eating in a roughly SW way again.
A typical day would be:
40g oats with prunes/dry apricots
Mid morning tea and apple
Big salad with eggs, tuna or ham, piece of fruit or yoghurt
Mid afternoon tea/coffee nuts or fruit
Evening meal : protein and veg, low fat
Snack. Maybe tea and an orange
This is how I lost the weight pre menopause, so now I may have to cut down , possibly intermittent fasting by dropping breakfast.
I think that smaller portions is the way to go.

I'm in the same boat. Actually went vegan two years ago and thought that the weight would drop off as I also loved and ate loads of butter and cheese, but no, have actually piled on more and all around my middle.
This week have cut out breakfast, the only meal I'm not bothered about, and all evening snacks. Am also going to go to the gym, but that's for fitness as I've never lost weight that way.
If no improvement in a couple of weeks I'll have to look at portion sizes.

I'm peri-menopausal, and have been for 4 long years now.... I'm 49, and would like to lose 4 stone. But sensibly.

I'm a sugar addict, with chocolate being my drug of choice. I can't, and don't want to, go cold turkey as I can't deal with the headache.

northernlittledonkey · 21/01/2020 21:32

I’m doing this, only eating for a window of 7-8 hours most days. Occasionally spanning to 9 or 10 on a Saturday. Been 3 weeks, definitely eating less. Weight not falling off yet, but I’ve stopped snacking etc. Doing SW principles, hopefully should kick in soon.

elizabethdraper · 21/01/2020 21:42

I would love to loss 3 stone. I have no idea how. I have completely given up.

Don't drink, do not do take away or fizzy drinks. Limit chocolate, vegetarian sort of vegan but not really , cook from scratch .

Spent a year in sw, lost two pounds and put on the same 2 pound all that year Tried just eating dinner for 3 months nothing, tried eating 1200 calories- nothing, tried 800 calories nothing shifted

I do a park run most week's. I walk 5-7 miles most days

If one more person says walk less, move more I will batter them

Well its nice to have some other people in my boat. Welcome.
I just cant bring myself to do fasting or 'windows' (great if it works for you though obviously). I just dont want to spend all my time thinking about food! Which is what I do if I am dieting or SW-ing.
But yes I do need to get back onto the right path with it.
Big salad with eggs, tuna or ham
yes thats what I used to like. And soups.

Its right about the weight going round your waist isnt it. I look like I'm pregnant. Not a good look on a menopausal lady!

got to stop the bread as it bloats me terribly. But I love it so much.
If only there was a good bread substitute.
I made ratatouille with baked potato for tea. Forgot how nice that is.

I think I will do some meal planning tomorrow and start a personal weigh in once a week.

Aw @elizabethdraper that sounds rubbish. I did sometimes feel like a mug for spending good money at SW to lose the same few pounds all the time.
Have you had your thyroid checked?

@elizabethdraper I dont mean you sound rubbish, I mean all the effort you've made for so little reward. Grin

I just need to lose the stone I’ve put on over Christmas but need to stop drinking and stop eating crisps, snack and sweets. I used boom bod last year and it was very good for stopping me snacking

elizabethdraper · 22/01/2020 10:05

Just back from the doctor getting my bloods done.
Am going to try and it cut back carbs and drop the milk from coffee

humblesims · 23/01/2020 08:42

@elizabethdraper yes I think cutting back carbs is probably key for us menopausals. I know I do better when I cut down. I dont find it too hard with things like pasta and potatoes and rice but bread is my downfall. I might try and cut it out altogether. I get quite bloaty if I eat too much.

I've been laid up with an ear infection for the last couple of days so self medicating with....toast etc.

Today i am going to meal plan. As I've been ill I havent been shopping which means there isnt much rubbish in the cupboards so today I will draw the line and...start making better choices.

porridge for breakfast (still with too much sugar but will cut that down).
Veg soup for lunch that I made yesterday but felt too ill to eat.
veg curry to tea make with leftover ratatouille.
no snacks. well maybe some grapes.
