Ditching SW / WW?

chipstickgirl · 10/01/2020 10:12

So, for about 25 years I have switched numerous times between Slimming World and WW with varying amounts of success from a couple of pounds to 6.5 stone but I start 2020 the heaviest I've ever been (excluding pregnancy) - I'm 15st 5lb and 5ft 6.

I know the simple answer is just eat less, but it's the one area of my life I seem completely incapable to control. I absolutely hate being fat and really, really want to sort it.

Has anybody else ditched SW / WW and found something that has worked for them for the long run?

Thanks in advance x

Hi,I did SW many years ago to get rid of baby weight. It did work but it felt weird that you could have endless fat free yogurts and loads of pasta.

I now do intermittent fasting and find it surprisingly easy (took me a while to find the regime that I like). I struggled with 5:2 so do something else now. I actually find it easier to not eat for periods of time than to eat diet food/low carb or low calorie...whatever!

I've ditched them both too and I'm in same position 15 11 heaviest I've iver been including nine month pregnant Sad I'm doing y fitness pal. Done it before and truly the only thing I've kept weight off with. Slow and steady wins the race xx

Try Team RH on Facebook. Very refreshing approach.

Thanks for your responses - I'll check that FB page also

RH fitness is the most repulsive thing. We actually discussed it in one of the nutrition groups on an inpatient eating disorder wards because a woman’s sister was on a tricky downward spiral.

@OneHanded really? What's so bad about it?

Two years ago I ditched ww (never got on with sw) and just ate “real food”. Cut out processed sugars and processed food, still ate fruit. Swopped diet yoghurt and milk for full fat. The weight came off gradually (1lb a week) but I lost inches v quickly. I lost 2 dress sizes and over 2 stones in five months.

I’m about to start it again, I put it back on comfort eating while lots of family and friends were seriously ill in hospital over the last 2 yrs. I’m also getting fit, I’ve signed up for a 26 mile charity hike in the summer and I’m starting from completely unfit!!

I tried SW and ended going up in weight - I think there was too much emphasis on big portions (something I struggle with) and syn treats made crappy food more acceptable to me.

I have been doing low cal (started very low on a VLCD) it's taken me 4 months to lose 1 and a half stones (so not fast) - I'm averaging 1200 cals a day now and I have a little extra (for wine or cheese) for a relaxed day every couple of weeks. I log all in my fitness pal, and I eat mostly home cooked, low carb.

I think for me it's more about eating mindfully - I was almost 15 stone so I know how you feel.

Yes. I left all groups and used simple calorie counting, with an app. Also focussed on a healthy diet, although with more bread than SW.
