Lifelong fatty here endless endless diets. Fasting all day then stuffing crap manically when I get in from work.
Noticed that celebs like Vanessa feltz and nigella Lawson have lost weight and kept it off. HOW?
Is it surgery or self control?
I'm just so exhausted with being fat and thinking about food all the time

Hi I think for many it's that they have access to the best trainers/dieticians and make the time to maintain it all.
I struggle trying to work, 2 small DCs and all the house stuff. The first thing I do when stressed is eat and not exercise. It's really hard and frustrating to stay focused. But I'm determined to keep trying Smile

I think Vanessa Feltz has had bariatric surgery. It sounds like Nigella low-earned although she's very tight-lipped on the whole thing! Ketogenic does stop you thinking about food, but there's a danger of bingeing when you stop the ketogenic < bitter experience>

fishonabicycle · 09/12/2019 13:35

It's not will power - that doesn't last. You have to form new habits.

ppeatfruit · 09/12/2019 15:59

Starving and then stuffing is unwise! , it seems to trigger the "I have to eat any effin'' thing" attitude. Have a look at Paul Mackenna's I can Make You Thin way of eating , there's no calorie counting, food weighing or diet foods. I promotes mindful eating It bloody works!!!!!.

I lost 3 stone with it 5 years ago I'm not thin though, I'm slim which suits me, and am maintaining my weight loss, you can stop and start with it .It's FAB.

Floralnomad · 09/12/2019 16:06

I lost 4.5 stone in 2017 and I’ve kept it off , mainly because I’ve completely changed my approach to food , do more exercise and have started Pilates .

I have never been overweight and I don’t diet. I’m 35 and even when pregnant I don’t go over BMI so I think I can help here. You must not fast during the day- it’s the road to no town. Instead, you need a massive breakfast- even if the thought of it makes you retch. I eat a huge bowl of porridge every day with toppings like banana, maple syrup, cinnamon and pecan nuts to keep me going. I’m usually starving by 10am and need a sandwich or something, then lunch is average size and dinner average size and home cooked. If you binge at night you get it all wrong- trust me.
If I am in a hurry and don’t get my breakfast as usual, I feel ravenously hungry for the rest of the day and eat pure shite. Breakfast is the key.
Diets like keto and blah blah blah are just restrictive shite. Look at the shopping trolley of slim women in supermarket and you will see they are cooking their own food, eating plenty of veg and taking the time to think about eating well.
Just do that. The weight will fall off.

StrayWoman · 10/12/2019 07:28

Stop dieting, stop buying shit, don't have shit food in the house.

If you don't buy it you can't eat it.

ppeatfruit · 10/12/2019 08:49

It's definitely true that eating late is the road to being OW. But Dansk being aware of your hunger is the key, if you don't feel hungry it's best not to eat, breakfast or not. With Mackenna you HAVE to eat when you're hungry, eat slowly, sitting down, no screens, really tasting your food. Then stopping just before you feel full.

To begin you eat little and often (though it should be healthy food) your body gets used to eating like that and I now eat approx 3 meals a day (sometimes with fruit and nuts as a snack). I always take some if I'm going out.

inwood · 10/12/2019 12:29

Didn't Vanessa have surgery? Otherwise money - pay for trainers, meals delivered, nothing else in the house etc

Spodge · 10/12/2019 17:20

Sorry, but the insistence that breakfast must be eaten by everyone is nonsense. What works for one person does not necessarily work for another. For me a major part of the key has been to stop eating breakfast. Keeping the weight off (5 1/2 stone) has been down to changing habits, exercising regularly but first and foremost keeping an eagle eye on calorie consumption. For me that means logging everything.

BloodyCats · 10/12/2019 17:50

I’ve lost and kept off weight this year, I haven’t dieted as such though.
I’ve formed new eating habits and learn not to associate food with feelings. I was a very emotional eater before.

ppeatfruit · 11/12/2019 09:37

....the insistence that breakfast must be eaten by everyone is nonsense

Exactly, we are all different.

Congratulations Splodge on the weight loss and more importantly the maintenance of it. Grin

Bluntness100 · 11/12/2019 09:43

But it's not just celebs who loose weight, plenty of people do. Just look at some of the threads on here where people are being successful.

You need to find a way of eating that works for you. There is no magic bullet. Starving all day and bingeing at night is not good, you know this.

ppeatfruit · 11/12/2019 10:00

Also I notice that Nigella seems to lose and gain weight like a yo yo. her night time fridge picking habits can't help her Xmas Grin

I heard Vanessa on a phone in and she replied to a caller who stated that what is needed to battle the obesity epidemic is education. Vanessa replied that she knows exactly WHAT she should eat and that she is highly educated but she IGNORES the advice . I reckon that that is a very general attitude Xmas Grin
