Hypothyroidism and weight loss

I'm at a loss. Had the condition for over 10 years. Weight slowly creeping up. V slow metabolism and chronic fatigue due to thyroid. Any tips on weight management from fellow thyroxine users?

Sounds to me like your dose may not be high enough. Have you spoken to your GP about increasing your dose?

Check the dose?

I’ve just started on it in the last couple of months and I’ve gone from gaining 1-3lbs per week to staying the same.

Yes, checked and adjusted a few months back as Dr did while checking health for hrt. I am watching what I eat.

What are the normal levels for t4 where you are (I only ask as they are different according to where the are sent/measured)? And what were you most recent blood results? Have they checked you again after the increase in dose?

Where I am the "normal" range is 12-21.

If I measure at 16 I feel awful. Tired, Still have heavy periods. Weight increases. Some GPs just see the "within range" number and will right you off as sorted. I pushed for more as I still had the symptoms.

On 18.5 and over I feel great. Normal. Periods are better, I am less tired. Weight maintains - though I can lose it too (have to work at it - but at least it shifts iyswim).

Find your levels from your GP surgery/recent tests and unless it is over the top (say for me that would be 21 or over) then you can push for at least trying a higher dose.

Oh and for future blood tests do not take your levothyroxine on the morning of the test - take it after the bloods have been taken.

And also, you do not have to go up by a whole tablet per day - it is perfectly OK to suggest to the GP you increase by say 25mcg every other day or every 3rd day.

Don't let this pass - you can feel better. You can feel normal with an underactive thyroid, I promise.
