Hi all,
I desperately need to lose some weight. I've always been big with my lowest weight been about 12 stone. I have no idea what I weigh now as a family member borrowed my scales but I suspect about 15 and half to 16 stone. My clothes are getting tighter and tighter and I am tonight, feeling so uncomfortable in my normal hoodie and jeans ☹️. I've always struggled with my weight but I sort of didn't realise this time how big I was getting again till I went shopping for a new coat and saw my self in the changing room big mirrors. I know what to do to lose weight but I'm just struggling. Every day I say today I'll start eating better and I just end up saying "tomorrow" every day.

Do people find slimming world good? Is it expensive food shopping wise? Not sure about groups can you do it online? Any advice welcome 🙏🏻

You should read "The Obesity Code" by Jason Fung to understand the true root causes of weight gain. Once you understand that, it is easy to lose weight permanently. I've lost 12 kilos, no exercise needed.
Go to Amazon and read the reviews of the book.

For me it was about making small incremental lifestyle changes rather than going on a diet. Weight loss has been slow and steady, but crucially it has stayed off.

I started off using the my fitness pal app to start tracking everything I ate and drank. Being aware of the calories I was consuming was a real eye opener and made me think twice about snacks etc.

Next up was to look at meals and start swapping out high calorie meals for a healthier alternative. Meal planning in advance and limiting snacks treats in the shopping. I started taking lunch to work - usually a healthy home made soup each day with a packet of baked crisps like mini cheddars or something and a piece of fruit.

Then it was about exercise. Walking more, finding a fitness class I liked and being brave enough to go to the gym. I've got an Apple Watch so I keep an eye to make sure my calories burned stays above 2000. If I know I'm going to have an indulgent day - going out for dinner or something, I make sure I up my activity for the week.

Hope that helps, it's worked for me!

I was coming onto post the same thing (I’m a similar weight too). I’ve lost all perspective and I’m really not sure where to start. I know cutting out junk food and drinking more water is the right thing to do but meal wise I don’t know. I’m not even sure if I know what a good healthy meal looks like which I know is unbelievably stupid. I’ve lost my way.

@Silencedwitness i joined slimming world yesterday morning. Although I've actually started this morning. Not expecting to see much of a loss next Monday. I got weighed and was exactly 15 stone. Struggling to get my head round the healthy extras etc. X

@Silencedwitness if it helps, we found the hairy bikers diet and the pinch of nom recipe books really helpful for family friendly healthy meals.

MotherOfLittlePeople · 12/11/2019 18:40

Have a look at Paul Mackenna's (I Can Make You Thin) books, dvds apps etc. It's not about dieting (apart from eating healthily) but changing your whole mindset, and watching the whys, whens and wheres you eat;
You reeducate your body to eating SLOWLY , really tasting and enjoying the food also only when you ARE hungry and stopping when you're full. So not in front of a screen or standing up etc etc. I lost 3 stone on it and maintain with it. The great thing is you can go off the rails for a day or 2 (or whenever) and then just return to it.

Oh I don't like the title , I don't want to be THIN i like being SLIM and it does work very well, No counting calories or weighing food or eating 'plasticated' food!!!!
