UK size 12 to size 6 - feasibility and effect on wardrobe

Has anyone managed to go from a UK 12 to 6?

Two questions:

  1. How long did it take you?
  1. And the second question is not specific to 12 to 6 but for anyone who has lost more than one dress size. If one assumes that if you just go down by one dress size you can probably get away with wearing the same stuff, but I assume two or more and you really need to buy new stuff.

So did you donate to charity/bin/eBay whatever all your stuff and buy absolutely everything all over again? Whilst that could be fun, I also feel that I might feel a bit/bad wasteful. I've got so many clothes in my current size and whilst I know I could easily find the same jeans/plain t-shirts, some things, such as dresses with particular patterns on, I'd not be able to replace as they'd no longer be available in-store.

I'm tempted to give myself a weight loss project to distract myself from a pretty crappy time and just pondering the ramifications.

Have you ever been size 6 OP? If you spent years at that size While eating healthily fair enough, but I would consider what your weight was at your slimmest consistent point. Personally I’ve never been less than 10 or more than 12 (I am a muscular build) but am quite overweight at the fatter end of 12 - I think healthy for me is a curvy 10 as I am far from skinny but a slim midriff at that weight and can maintain it with a healthy lifestyle. I think you need think in terms of your actual body type

@Crazyhead

Well I guess I must have been a size 6 at some point to get up to a size 12 Grin

I did it.

I was a size 12 after my first baby. I lost some weight, and then got diagnosed with gallstones. The only way to help myself was to eat no fat, so I didn’t. I was also breastfeeding and exercising a lot as it became an obsession. I lost around a stone every 6 weeks. I went from 11st 7 to 7st 11. I was 1lb from being underweight. I didn’t look good. My husband didn’t fancy me. It hurt to lie in the bath. I couldn’t shave my underarms as they were concave.

I looked at my best around 8st 7 where I was a size 8. I’m now 10st and a size 10 and would like to get down to 9st at some point.

Size 6 definitely feels too small for your frame (and potentially unachievable). Aim for a toned 10 IMHO.

I went from a size 20 to a 6/8 (bottom) and 10 (top). I love the way I look. I am neither skinny, nor emaciated. It suits me and isn't anyone else's business.

Haven't been near a 6 but went from 20 to 10/12. Most of my clothes were a 16 just stretched out. Some I managed to save but it was a mostly new wardrobe.

I went from a small 12 at 5’5 to a 6/8. However, I’d previously been a 6/8 and weight crept up in late 20s when moved in with husband. I thought that it was normal to gain when as I got older, and so stayed at a 12 for about a year before realising I’d actually just adopted poor habits (e.g. crisps most days).
Lost weight slowly with a few tweaks rather than dieting, and it took about 8 months to get back to where as I was comfortable with my weight.
Getting rid of clothes wasn’t really an issue, as I didn’t like much of what I owned before as I was buying clothes to hide my shape. Most went to charity, or family.
