How easy is SW?

I need to lose weight and fast. I'm really unhappy with myself atm.

I've been looking at slimming world. There is a group local to me but I feel a bit anxious about attending. Having researched a fair bit I think I get the general idea of the diet side of it. Is it something I could do alone or are the groups necessary/important to have success.

Is SW easy to adopt as a lifestyle? And are there any other tips or advice people could offer? I'm really clutching at straws here to try and lose weight quickly.

Interested in any negatives or alternatives to SW too by the way!

It is easy yes, but I found the weightloss to be too slow. I was losing half a pound then gaining back. It didn't work for me. I started by filling the dukan diet and have settled into a low carb way of eating.
I drink way more water now and never crave sugar which was my achillies heel!
Anyway I have lost 10lbs from the end of July until now ( could have been more but I have the occasional bottle of wine and takeaway on weekend).

I have done it a few times which speaks for itself I suppose ! I couldn't keep the weight off.

Have had great success recently with calorie counting and fasting combined.

For me the issue with SW was that the empasis was on feeling full.

And the reality is that wanting to be full is one of my issues but I need to teach my body to need less.
Am almost at target now and feel confident I may keep it off this time.

Thanks for the replies. I have heard calorie counting is a good/healthier way that still allows you to eat what you like providing you're under the calorie allowance. Is it 1200 you should aim for if you want to lose weight?

I might try and see if there is an app to keep track of it.

My first step is to cut out alcohol. I blame wine for a lot of my weight gain and by removing I'll probably be a good 2000+ calories down per week.

Just really need some direction about diet and exercise too.

My fitness pal is a great app for tracking your calories! You can even scan bar codes of produce.
I lost 2 stone doing intermittent slimming world and the 5:2 diet. It wasn't a quick fix for me though, took 18 months. But you can do it OP. Good luck!

Op what works for one won't always work for another. I found sw to be very carb heavy and demonised fat. I'm the kind of person that will eat carbs for fun and will never feel full. Whereas when I eat low carb higher fat my appetite changes really quickly. I'd never binge some full fat Greek yogurt but will eat pasta for fun. When I didn't lose weight the consultant told me I wasn't eating enough Grin

SW is easy and works if you stick to it. Then you fall off the wagon and the weight goes back on. Same with any diet. I lost 1.5 stone using MFP in a relatively short space of time and it’s all gone back on over 6 weeks of summer.
SW is good if you avoid all the recipes with sweetener etc (Diet Coke chicken anyone?!) and just eat decent food from scratch, and make sure you are eating plenty of vegetables as that’s what fills you up and stops you going overboard on pasta.
It’s by far the easiest diet I’ve ever done.

It's easy enough to get your head around and it does make you lose weight if you stick to it. It's good that there is so much free food as there's always something you can eat. However, at times I've found this diet unsatisfying. Yes you can eat if you're hungry, but it's not what you want to eat.
I find it hard to stick to after a few weeks. The syn system I believe they make up as they go along as some of it doesn't sound right.

I love carbs and cheese. So I guess the fact that you can have both of these on SW does appeal to me. But the thought of having to syn everything from a blob of ketchup to a sugar in my coffee feels a bit exhausting. I might go to one session just to see what it's all about and in the meantime just try and make healthier choices.

I'm cutting out booze and crisps for a start and trying to opt for healthier lunches at work by planning ahead a bit. Dp does a lot of the cooking in our house and doesn't quite grasp the concept of SW - I.e he will still put a good old chunk of butter or oil in the cooking and not think it will make a difference Sad

I would give SW a shot, I'm currently doing it as my mum and BIL had massive success on it without feeling like their diets were too restricted.

The only stumbling block for me so far has been that there isn't a great deal of provision for eating out as I don't think you're supposed to use all your syns at once (like your weekly total), which you can do on WW if you wanted to, and there is no way to track on the app if you do have one blow out meal.

A lot of things you can cook at home have more syns in them than I'm allowed in a day so not sure what to do in those situations.

I have found it really good in general though because there is so much 'free' food in the plan that I don't always have to turns to vegetables or fruit for a snack.
