Over ambitious?

Is it really over ambitious to set a weight loss target at 6 stone loss?
I was thinking gym which I've been going to and slimming world from home as I can't take myself off to yet another class. I've been and gone too many times to count.

My husband thinks I'll never do it, yet I need to lose 5 just to be in the healthy weight range Hmm

Thanks

Not too ambitious as long as you think of it as a permanent lifestyle change, and mentally work on 7lbs at a time to keep yourself motivated by recognising each part of your progress. I lost 5 stone also by SW from home, have had a pause as I was tired Grin so decided to maintain that level for a few months, and am now just knuckling down again to lose the 6th stone.

Good luck, you can do this!

An overall target is good - but it can be motivating to set smaller goals/milestones to reach along the way. I find this works better for me as it's always nice to reach a goal and then set a new one that seems more achievable!

You could start with a target of losing a stone for example, then when you hit that set the next stone, etc.

Every loss is a success - a stone is a huge achievement to lose in itself, then 2 stone is great, etc!

I'm just so tired of being fat and tired all the time Confused but on the flip side it seems so extreme. But like you say, half a stone at a time will be more manageable

Measure yourself too - monthly re-measures will show you progress if the scales are being annoying!

I am still surprised how much more energy I have these days. It's hard some days, but actually easy other days, and so totally totally worth it.

What's your motivation to do it? Maybe find some pictures or quotes etc and make a small card for yourself with the motivation on. Mine is propped up beside the kettle so I see it all the time. It includes a photo of an adult lion and a tiny cub and the words "I thought about quitting, but then I noticed who was watching".

Better to set smaller targets and adjust as you go. You may be happy to stick at a smaller loss if you look and feel well at that size, in which case you'll have 'failed' in reaching your target, but in reality you'll have done brilliantly.

My first target was getting down to a small 16 (from a supposed 18 but really much bigger). Then a 14, and so on. I ended up as a 10 but look better when a 12.

ChocOrCheese · 23/08/2019 18:04

Absolutely not. It's quite right to dream big (or in this case, small) so long as you set manageable milestones along the way. Good luck.

Thank you Smile

We're actually working alongside a dietician to help my 5 year old dd with her weight too so this can only be a positive thing

Not at all! It is achievable ☺️ as long as you take it slowly aiming for 1-2lbs a week and no crash dieting. I lost 5 stone after my first DC purely through calorie counting and running/gym.

Jumblebee · 23/08/2019 22:55

I don't think it's too ambitious if you have a sensible plan to follow. I set myself the goal of losing 8 stone this year (and hitting my target I will Still be classified as overweight) and I'm 4 and a half stone in.

So it's doable, I think you just need that light bulb moment OP!

3dogs2cats · 24/08/2019 18:47

I know it doesn’t happen for everyone, but some people with a lot to lose, despite eating sensibly find the first few stones come off really quick. That would be pretty wonderful. Didn’t happen for me but ...
Also, remember you will be feeling better long before 6 stone. I have lost under a stone, but my clothes fit better, I have more energy, I can get my socks on and off and I’m not hating myself all day long.
Sounds like Flathead screwdrivers lion picture could be a good for you too. Join 1 of the support threads, they do help.
Best of luck

Found the picture and also, as I hear you about the exhaustion of looking after DC who need extra support, thought you might like this other quote about remembering you deserve this for yourself and you matter.

I disagree with the having small goals, you dont want to lose half a stone you want to lose six.

Keep at it, day in, day out, and the weight will come off, obviously as you lose weight you will feel better, happier and more confident but dont settle until you hit that six stone!
