Noticing positive things

I'm working on losing weight at the moment, mainly through changing my eating habits and I'm also swimming and going to the gym, plus a pilates class. I know that I've got quite a lot of weight to shift (about 20kgs) but I also know that if I weigh myself at the moment I shall either feel so disheartened that I'll give up, or I'll set myself unrealistic targets. I'm focusing instead on noticing positive changes since I started, such as:

  • my jeans feel a bit looser
  • my ankles don't feel like lead after a long drive
  • I'm enjoying thinking about food in a more positive way, rather than feeling guilty about it
  • my personal trainer has just given me some more challenging things to do in the gym
  • I'm a bit bendier than I was a couple of weeks ago.
No particular reason for posting this! But I hope that these positive effects will become stronger/more significant over time and may help me to continue to make sensible changes and not obsess about my weight.

I love this! I also know weighing any time soon will demotivate me. I'm only on day 3 here but after day 1 I felt proud of my achievement re calorie intake and quality of food, and on day two I noticed I wasn't feeling stuffed and bloated at the end of the day. I don't expect to notice much today. Friday night is take away night here and although i chose well, kept portion control and had eaten less the day before to make up for it, I expect to feel like my usual self but I'm looking forward to getting back that non- bloated feeling tomorrow!

I think I'm in my own here but I want to add another small positive since I'm too early in my journey to notice actual weight loss. My oh came in yesterday with one of my favourite snacks. I had a small bite, then googled calories, then put it quietly in the bin. No drama, he thinks I enjoyed the treat he brought me. I know that I'd I'm going to achieve this that telling him, asking him not to tempt me, will be fruitless. I simply have to say no. I used to have this capacity so I can build it back up.

I'm still going!

  • Less desire to snack - I'm feeling much less fixated about food
  • Sleeping better
  • My skin looks less washed out
  • Jeans now fit!!! (Although they're still quite a few sizes too large for my liking)
  • More energy
  • Less prone to make old lady (I am an old lady) noises when I sit down. Not quite as successful yet when standing up though

One month down, feels like hundreds more to go, but am still feeling optimistic.

I love this thread!

I'm also not weighing myself. I've been eating really well and hitting the gym hard for the past six weeks or so.

  • I have SO much more energy.
  • Sleep is better
  • Skin is clearer
  • My previously sparse eyebrows are growing back for the first time in ten years Hmm
  • My muscle definition is improving so quickly
  • Clothes look immeasurably better on me

Well done everyone.

elasti can I ask what you're doing to improve your muscle tone? I need to do that! Thanks Smile

@QuimReaper Bascially spanking it at the gym. A lot. I go five times a week, for at least an hour and a half each time. I do about 70 mins cardio on various machines then the rest is weights.

I really enjoy it, and to be honest I've had a really rough time the past few weeks for various reasons and the effect on my mental health is just as positive as my physical health.
