OK.

Was at a party last night and wished I could wear some of hte clothes on show. Began thinking I should really lose some weight.

Tried on some jeans in store changing room today and I looked hideous. I am goign to lose weight by XMas.

As of tomorrow I will cut down on portion sizes and walk up hte stairs at work. When I get back from holiday I will go a bit further and start a bit more excercise and change the food I am eating.

What did you do once you have decided? Start a Week next Wednesday? Start tomorrow? Throw away all the treats? Eat them/get the family to eat them and not buy any more?

Devonshire it all got horribly personal from that point on..............

Am losing now, but it brought out my inner five year old. My first instinct was to sit in front of him mainlining lard just for spite, but he had a point, regardless of the way it was put across.

He's very careful what he says, lately

Have lost 7 lbs so far and still going. Have been doing slimfast and getting on well. My sister is getting married in 2 weeks and is really slim, as are my other 2 sisters. I don't want to be known as the fat sister so am determined to look good. 2 days after that I am off to Cyprus and want to wear a bikini. Every year I fail to lose weight before hols and every year I get there and wish I had made an effort. I know slimfast is not a long term solution but at the moment it is working for me.

SlightlyMadSpider · 30/07/2007 17:15

Day 1
Walked up the stairs 2 times (out of 2)
Had a sandwich for lunh. No pudding. And it was a good job I didn't llok at hot options or I would not have had my sandwich .

I have never dieted in my life before today!.It took a year for me to shuft the 50lbs of baby weight to finally come off after having my son - not a very quick weight loss, but Ididnt do anything - diet, exercise etc - it just slowly came off, and I was chuffed that I was still able to eat what I wanted, laze about and be relatively slim. However.... in the last year I have slowly put back on about 20 lbs. I can't wear the clothes I want to and I feel podgy and old. I also feel myself falling into a really bad comfort eating pattern...so in answer to your question (in a very long winded way!) - these were the triggers - and today was the first day of my new, healthier lifestyle. I have started by addressing my diet, and have eaten really healthily today (although I still eat good sized portions - I have learnt from bitter experience that if I am still hungry after a meal I am tempted to snack on rubbish...).
Tomorrow I start with my exercise (I'm going to go on a longm, brisk walk and do some stretches to limber up _ i am beyond unfit!). I've just ordered Daviuna McCall's DVD and I'm going to go swimming and get back into my yoga agin this week, too. Wish me luck...and loads of luck to all of you trying to slim down xxx

I went into M&S to be measured for a new bra, and she told me that they didn;t do them big enough and I'd have to go to Bravissimo or order online . I was by then a 40J. I went home, looked at the websites and then realised they didn't even accept my debit card so I was basically stuffed. Then i got mad and thought 'this is ridiculous, I can't even buy a bra anymore. It's gotten out of hand', so I made an appointment at the GP, and told him how I felt and he gave me Xenical tablets. That was in April, and I've lost 3 stone, am down to a 36G, and gone from dress size 20/22 to 16/18.

SMS, I had a lightbulb type of moment about 2 months ago when I realised I didn't want to keep on as I was. I was and always angry with myself for having no willpower etc whne it came to food.
All of a sudden I decided to do something about it and have been steadily loosing weight ever since I'm not on a diet as such or doing an excersize routine but I do think about food before I eat it (do I really want those biscuits? Or would an apple be nicer and make me feel better?) I also try to cycle everywhere or make the kids take their scooters so I have to walk faster to keep up with them. I've lost about 16lbs and feel soooo much better. I haven't set a target weight, but I'm enjoying fitting into clothes better and feeling my confidence rise
Wishing you lots of luck, I hope you find something that works for you

I never really lost my pregnancy weight and was still breastfeeding ds2. Saw some photos of me at a family bbq and at Legoland. Was totally shocked at my size (was a size 16)......been toying with the idea of Slimming World but needed a kick to get me through the door. A year later and over 3.5 stone lighter I feel fab! Also grown my hair and changed my wardrobe (to a size 8 ) so a total transformation! Now below target and maintaining my weight pretty well. Have revamped my diet plus that of the family too. Also stopped drinking wine which has made me feel much better too. Go to the gym 3-4 times a week doing Body Pump and spinning which I thoroughly enjoy - bit me me time! Also started running as well and did the Race for Life in June. Signed up for another 5km in September.

Smithy · 07/08/2007 09:11

Oops - bit of me time!

I am currently going to weight watchers, at first I lost about 2lbs a week, but for the last couple of weeks it's been up and down, we have had relatives staying with us which hasn't helped.

I think it's a good idea to get the whole family eating healthy food and then introduce some fun exercise you can do as a family.

GoingThroughChanges · 07/08/2007 10:22

When my friend from England visited me with her new baby, she took lots of photos. One is of me laying on the sofa with her baby on my knees, I was making faces at the baby.... I was also dressed in black trousers, black chiffon top & a pair of black clumpy boots.. I remember the roll of fat hanging over the trousers & how tight the top was on me

I wore black in faint hope that no-one would look at me, but looking back, how could I help but draw attention to myself wearing what I wore.

My friend e-mailed me the photo about 2 months after she went home... I wept & sobbed, asked everyone around me why they hadn't told me I had gained so much weight. Not only that, I looked so unhappy in the pic, it was bound to be obvious to everyone how I felt. My hair was the most unflattering colour too..... I looked like a fat, sad, lonely woman, even though the room was crowded when the photo was taken.

I joined sw that week & have since lost 24lb. Sure, I have at least another 2olb to go, but I know I can do it now I have the support of the people who know how I felt about being so overweight. My mum recently told me she didn't think it had bothered me being overweight as I always seemed confident & happy... little did she know about the buckets of rescue remedy I forced down & the medicinal glasses of wine I swallowed before I went anywhere.

You can do it Spider

Aero · 07/08/2007 10:45

A relative of mine has lost over 7 stone recently and is almost unrecognisable now. She looks amazing! I've never had such a large amount to lose as that, so if she can do it, then I feel that surely I can too!!

I've done it before after ds1 was born and mostly kept it off until I was expecting ds2 (had dd in between) and somehow the motivation never returned. I found it really easy (WW) once I started and all the cravings for rubbish disappeared once the lbs started to come off, so I don't really know why I've not been able to start again and over the last three years the weight has crept back on again.

Anyhoo, I feel that the motivation is returning and I'm buying no more rubbish for the house (apart from a few biscuits which I'm no fan of). The dc have been informed that they can snack on fruit. I think I may need to return to WW to do it seriously as stepping on scales in front of someone is enough to make me not want to gain any weight, but I'll see how it goes over the rest of the summer and if no good, then WW will be having a new recruit in September!

Wow@Smithy. Very inspirational. xx

tiredemma · 07/08/2007 16:17

I had put on two stone over a couple of years, Dp said it didnt matter- but to me it did. Im only 5' so looked real stumpy.

I had tried to 'self diet' on and off for ages, never losing any weight.

We went to Florida on holiday and I was sickened by the size of the majority of people there - really.

I said to DP in a que for a ride " when I get home, Im going on a diet"
He rolled his eyes and said "well see how long it lasts"

We got home from florida on the sunday- on the wednesday I asked on here about weight loss clubs and someone suggested Slimming World.

I went onto the slimming world site and saw that there was a class that very evening.

Bit the bullet and went along.

I have lost 1 stone and 2 pounds since.

I feel fab, have slid into my old jeans.

Im so happy!

Smithy · 07/08/2007 19:18

Tiredemma that's brilliant - well done you! I bet you get lots of comments about how fab you look - that's been the motivation to keep me on track. I was asked last week if I was an athlete as my shoulders are so well defined from going to the gym!

SlightlyMadSpider - when I decided, I went to the first SW class I could find.
I kept a food diary (they get you to do this for the first month at SW anyway, but I found it really useful to keep going).
I ditched the biscuits/chocolate.
I stuck a note on the fridge door showing how much I'd lost in total.
I kept my slimmer of the week / target SW member certificates on the fridge door too.
I also stuck a crap photo on the fridge door (initally) to remind me what I was moving away from and then nice photo's of the new, slimmer me showing what I'd achieved.
The other really good tip is to plan your meals for the week in advance. That way, you never get to a mealtime without having a pretty good idea of what you're going to eat and you can then shop accordingly - missing out the treats aisle as you go. On SW, though, you are allowed to have a limited number of treats - so if you really want to have chocolate you can - but you have to be disciplined. Sorry for the ramble, once I start on SW I can't stop!
