What can we larger women wear in this bloody heat?!

Ok, so not really a diety question. But given that there are probably lots of us on this board in the same boat, I thought I would ask the hive mind!

I am my fattest ever, 5'7" and around 17 stone (106 kg). Clothes are generally ancient and range from size 16-20. Trying to eat healthily and I exercise quite a lot, but I need some inexpensive clothing ideas for now rather than waiting until I am thinner, so I don't feel like a boiled dumpling in this heat!

I am vaguely hourglassy, better with lower necklines, don't do above the knee, good with strong colours and patterns.

HELP ME DRESS FOR THE SUN!

I'm with you. I hate hate HATE the same shit every morning... can't wait to get thin so that I can throw on whatever and look fab. It will have to wait till next summer though.

For now it's still jeans and baggy tops 🙄 will follow this thread in hope that someone waves a magic wand and shows us what to wear 😁

George at Asda is your friend. Lots of linen trousers and shirts, loose tops, sundresses - all in larger sizes.

What heat?

Nautiloid · 05/07/2019 06:27

I'm with you! My work uniform is the worst, not comfortable in it with arms on show so I wear a cardigan every day. Horrible.

I find maxi dresses with cropped cotton leggings underneath are the best. They are more flattering, hide lumps and bumps and the leggings avoid chub rub.
I also wear linen or fine cotton trousers with loose linen or silk shirts but I look a lot fatter in that get up than in a maxi dress.

Thanks so much! Some great ideas here! Right, I will look up George at Asda stuff, that is about my budget.

Dresses and leggings also a good idea, I don't mind just above the knee dresses if the cut is right and my legs are in leggings. Cropped would be nice too.

Thanks all!

I have to say I don’t think cropped leggings are flattering - they seem to stop on the worst part of the leg, and being attention to it

I like the Gap boatneck midi dress, I have 4 in varying shades of black and grey, wear without tights in the summer and with tights and a cardigan in the winter. I'm a size 22 and wear the xxl, it's a lovely quality jersey and keeps its shape without any bobbling from the wash.

Maxi t-shirt dress with short sleeves, or
A Uniqlo sleeveless bra dress? (I don't mind sleeveless if my arms and shoulders are tanned)

@Dizzywizz I was suggesting them under maxi dresses to avoid chub rub, not as a fashion item in themselves. I agree - not a good look at all.

asteri76 · 05/07/2019 22:02

I have bought a few of these dresses.. so flattering..

Today I am in a knee length thin cotton dress and cropped leggings. They look okay!

Dizzywizz · 06/07/2019 05:40

Oh I see @growlingbear!

Loose linen or linen-mix trousers, and a vest top with a fine, gauzy cotton shirt worn open over it. I often size up on the shirt.

A short, flared dress that skims the hips, with cropped leggings that end below the widest point of the calf.

Mostly sourced from M&S, M&Co, supermarkets and outdoor shops like Mountain Warehouse and Decathlon.

Decathlon for the leggings. They had good, dense, black leggings in a range of lengths. The shorter ones are perfect as big knickers to prevent chub-rub under a dress. They are also the only place I have found cropped leggings that don't end just above or exactly on the widest part of the calf.
