What do you eat in a day?

I feel like the amount I eat doesn't add up for the size I am. Im a size 5ft4 and a size 14. My Mum is the same height and size as me and she eats way more than i do and is less active than me Hmm Today I didn't have breakfast, then for lunch a sausage sandwich with a coffee. Then dinner a shepherds pie with tons of veg, a yogurt, cheese string and handful of peanuts during the evening. A pretty standard day for me. Anyone else feel the same?

Well, sausage sandwich is quite calorie rich as is a shepherds pie, and if you add cheese and peanuts it all adds up .
It is not exactly a light or even healthy meal plan, quite high in fat.

What do I eat in a day? Usually something like this:

Breakfast 0% fat natural yoghurt with mango and raspberries

Lunch sliced chicken breast or a can of tuna with a huge salad of spinach, peppers, cucumber, red onion and tomatoes with 2 hardboiled eggs and fat free dressing.

Tea something like mixed bean chilli or turkey chilli. Either on its own or with a weighed portion of brown rice.

Snacks hoola hoops puft or 3 ryvitas with low fat spread and reduced sugar jam.

Having re joined WW, I've learned that I need to eat regular meals, including breakfast. Before I was in a kind of "starve then reward" pattern. What are your portion sizes like? How many sausages and what type? What type of bread?

chipscheesegravy · 15/06/2019 07:40

Quite a lot of calories there OP. Sausage sandwich will add up, did you have butter and ketchup as well? Shepherds pie another high cal meal as well as the peanuts.

Try having healthier food that will fill you up better as well.

Do you use my fitness pal to track what you're eating? Best thing I ever did and I lost 2 stone. You'd be amazed at how much we can be in denial about what we are eating until it's there in black and white in front of you.

How does MFP work? Do you need to weigh everything and then type it in (lot of faff) or just take a photo and go?

Bluesheep8 · 15/06/2019 07:54

I know MFP is great for some but I'm not tech savvy in the slightest so couldn't get on with MFP when I tried it. WW works best for me. As long as you write everything down and ensure you stick to weights and portion sizes, you should be fine. It's the honesty and accountability that works, the app is just a way of recording it I think

Bluesheep8 · 15/06/2019 07:56

freefrops "a LOT of faff" is exactly how I'd describe it! For me, my brief foray into it ended with "F - it, I'll have a biscuit!" Grin

Bluesheep8 · 15/06/2019 07:57

But I do recognise that it works very well for many people.

Freefrops · 15/06/2019 07:58

Is that why MFP works then?? Ie because it’s so much effort to record everything, it’s easier to just not eat? Grin

Unfortunately comparing your self against others is pointless. I see lots of thinner people eating more but it won't stop me getting fatter.

A sausage sarnie is only something I would have occasionally as it's very stodgy. I would instead choose one slice of toast or bread with one sausage if I had it regularly and then I would be mindful to fill up on veg for my later meals.

For something like shepherds pie it would only take up 1/4 of my plate and the rest would be vegetables whereas I see most people do the opposite so the majority is the pie and the veg occupy the remaining 1/4.

Again I have cheese but only a small amount usually with salad.

Someone once posted that when people say they have a certain meal that could be something like 800 calories for one person but 400 for another depending on the portion size and the type of ingredients you pick. I think there is a lot of truth in that because I have the same meals as my DH but the difference in calories is massive.

MIdgebabe · 15/06/2019 08:03

ITs really hard to compare what 2 people are really eating without weighing everything. It’s not just what you eat, but how much ....bread, 1 small slice,or 2 chunky, how many sausages, how were they cooked, any butter or sauces, and what about extras, like surely you drank more than a single cup of coffee ( was that black or latte)

Bluesheep8 · 15/06/2019 08:04

freefrops ha ha, that just about sums it up for me!
whoatemynuts wise words about portion size and balance of things on the plate.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 15/06/2019 08:09

OP .. depends on portion size!

Sounds like quite "rich" food

Fwiw, I eat similar to you (but have breakfast and more veg &fruit on top of that) and am 6ft and do 1-2 hrs exercise a day (lots of cardio)

So if you are smaller and less active, you may be overeating slightly

SallyWD · 15/06/2019 08:15

I do 16/8 and my day goes something like this.

10am brunch : fruit salad with kefir followed by a cheese and onion toasty with ketchup or a fried egg sandwich/fish finger sandwich (I only eat 2 big meals a day so they are quite large and filling)

2.30pm: a meal like le rul and sweet potato curry with rice.

Until 6pm when I start my fast I'll just nibble - maybe a bit if bread and cheese, some nuts, a few squares of dark chocolate etc. I sometimes pick at my kids leftovers.

SallyWD · 15/06/2019 09:57

That's meant to say lentil and sweet potato curry
